As an integral part of the interdisciplinary team, the Registered Nurse utilizes the nursing process to provide therapeutic care to patients. The Registered Nurse is accountable for the coordination of patient care and education to the patient and family in accordance with the standards, policies, and practices in a compassionate, supportive, and therapeutic environment.
Essential Duties:
- Follows policies and procedures; demonstrates ability to access online manuals.
- Transfers learned scientific knowledge into practical application in applying the Nursing Process.
- ASSESSMENT: Appropriately completes Nursing Assessment upon patient admission, at each shift, and with change of condition. Completes patient acuity by 0200/1400 daily.
- DIAGNOSIS: Interprets assessment information and formulates Nursing Diagnoses.
- PLAN: Develops Plans of Care with individualized interventions. Documents expected/projected patient outcomes. Reviews, revises, and updates Plans of Care daily based on evaluation and interpretation of patient outcomes.
- INTERVENTION: Administers medication and IV therapy appropriately at prescribed intervals. Completes patient care procedures correctly per policy at prescribed intervals. Delegates tasks based on others' scope of practice and competency. Acts as patient advocate. Manages restraint use per policy, attempting alternative non-restraint measures first. Ensures MD order and assessment per policy. Monitors patient per policy. Completes Restraint Audit Form each shift.
- DOCUMENTATION: Ensures complete and correct documentation on all relevant forms and flow sheets. Transcribes and signs off orders prior to shift end. Performs 12h/24h chart checks.
- EDUCATION: Provides patient and family education as needed, including orientation and identifying knowledge deficits. Uses MICROMEDEX information to educate patients and families.
- TRANSFER & DISCHARGE: Collaborates with Case Manager and/or physician for discharge planning. Completes transfer paperwork and ensures belongings are sent with the patient.
- EQUIPMENT: Uses patient care equipment safely and appropriately, including IV pumps, feeding pumps, PCA, epidural pumps, Wound VAC, heating pads, and others.
- COMMUNICATION: Communicates effectively with healthcare team, patients, and families through various channels and reports.
- ORGANIZATION: Manages time effectively, prioritizes responsibilities, and completes shifts timely.
- REGULATORY COMPLIANCE: Observes agency requirements such as Patient Safety Goals, HIPAA, OSHA, JCAHO, and others.
- MANAGEMENT OF SPECIFIC PATIENT CARE: Demonstrates ability to manage patients in various units, including Medical Surgical, ICU, Stepdown, Dialysis, and Psychiatric units, with specific protocols and safety measures.
- BEHAVIORAL RESTRAINTS: Demonstrates de-escalation and restraint application techniques, monitors patients, and completes required documentation and debriefings.
- QUALITY MEASURES: Participates in data collection and process improvement activities related to quality indicators.
- PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT: Participates in hospital/nursing activities, committees, and research.
- Additional duties: Performs other related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (BSN), or grandfathered from BSN if hired prior to 12/2019.
- At least 1 year of acute inpatient hospital RN experience.
- Excellent communication skills in English.
- Knowledge of medical procedures, including blood collection and apheresis.
- Commitment to patient care and customer service.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Specialty Certification (preferred).
Required Licenses/Certifications:
- RN license (CA Board).
- Basic Life Support (BLS) from AHA.
- Fire Life Safety Training (LA City) within 30 days if applicable.
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) from AHA, required for ICU, Step-down, Telemetry units, with a 180-day acquisition window if not previously certified.
The hourly rate range for this position is $44.00 - $95.00. Considerations for offers include experience, education, skills, and organizational factors.
