Job summary

The University of Alabama at Birmingham is seeking an RN-Clinic (Temp) to provide medical treatment and personal care in the clinic setting under supervision, including vital signs, exam room setup, and point-of-care tasks.

This temporary role requires an accredited RN program graduate, Alabama RN license, and CPR/BLS certification, with the ability to work across departments as needed; onsite day shifts.

Qualifications

  • Graduation from an accredited Registered Nursing Program is required.
  • Currently licensed or licensed by endorsement as an RN by the Alabama Board of Nursing is required.
  • Current CPR/BLS certification via the American Heart Association or American Red Cross is required.

Responsibilities

  • Assists in providing accurate, prompt direct and indirect nursing care; Stocks and maintains exam rooms; Set up exam rooms for specific procedures per provider’s orders; Accurately takes and records patient vitals and / or perform EKGs, urine dipsticks, pregnancy tests, or other point of care tasks; report critical values to ordering provider.
  • Conducts interview of patients to obtain pertinent health history data and other information, documents chief complaints, reviews electronic health record (EHR) updates information and documents medications, allergies, etc.
  • Administers certain oral, subcutaneous, intramuscular, topical, intradermal, inhalation, instillation, and infusion medications per provider’s order.
  • Displays effective communication skills. Provides accurate and thorough patient, family, and caregiver education and instructions, in accordance with established protocols and within the scope of practice, or as directed by the provider.
  • Conduct regular chart reviews on patients and assist with pre-visit planning.
  • Monitor patient outcomes and activities between PCP visits.
  • Participate in medication reviews in collaboration with team members, using established protocols.
  • May serve as a peer mentor and provide student learning experience as assigned.
  • Ability to properly use departmental patient care/non-patient care equipment, including performing blood and urine specimen collection, in compliance with established policies, procedures, and specimen collection protocols.
  • Perform and assist with clinical procedures in accordance with established protocols, demonstrated competencies, provider orders, and organizational policies.
  • Processes all patient inquiries, messages, and requests promptly, efficiently, and in a professional manner while practicing patient confidentiality. This includes consistently monitoring the electronic health record (EHR) inbox to manage patient, provider, and interdisciplinary communications. Reviews, prioritizes and responds to messages within the scope of practice, mitigating, or escalating issues as appropriate to ensure timely communication, continuity of care, and compliance with organizational policies and established response standards.
  • Provides coverage across departments and clinic locations as needed to maintain appropriate staffing levels and ensure continuity of high-quality patient care.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Description


GENERAL SUMMARY

Work involves providing medical treatment and personal care for patients as ordered by provider. Work requires the employee to perform duties such as taking and recording vital signs and other clinic specific procedures. The work is performed under supervision of the Nurse Supervisor and/or provider according to facility policies and procedures.

Pay Range $26.52-42.54


Qualifications


  • Graduation from an accredited Registered Nursing Program is required.

  • Currently licensed or licensed by endorsement as an RN by the Alabama Board of Nursing required.

  • Current CPR/BLS certification via the American Heart Association or American Red Cross is required.


WORK ENVIRONMENT


  • This role may require lifting up to 50 lbs.
