Job summary

Uintah Basin Medical Center in Roosevelt, UT is seeking a part-time Registered Nurse to work in and around the Operating Rooms, assisting surgeons and anesthetists and ensuring patient care and charting during procedures.

You will coordinate care across PACU, same-day surgery, and endoscopy while responding to changes in patient condition and maintaining safety and confidentiality. On-call duties include a 20-minute response, with housing accommodations provided if needed.

Qualifications

• Current Registered Nurse licensure in the State of Utah.
• Current BLS certification.
• Current PALS certification.
• Current ACLS certification.

Responsibilities

• Assists with patient care and charting during procedures in the OR with surgeons, anesthetists, and surgical technicians.
• Maintains communication with the surgeon and anesthesiologist regarding patient conditions and management.
• Works in ancillary departments such as PACU, same-day surgery, and endoscopy as needed.
• Performs nursing duties with consideration for perioperative factors and airway management.
• Ensures safety and privacy, coordinates patient care, and provides patient/family education.

Description

Job Summary:

Works within the Operating Rooms with surgeons, anesthetists, and surgical technicians. Communicates with surgeon and anesthesiologist continuously, and as needed, about patient conditions; receives direction for patient management. Is responsible for patient care and charting during procedures. Also works in ancillary departments such as PACU, same-day surgery, and endoscopy. Assists with room turnovers and setup to help improve workflow if needed. On-call is required with a 20-minute response (housing accommodations are provided if needed).

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Approaches the patient in a kind, gentle, and friendly manner
• Gives patient explanations and verbal reassurances consistently
• Responds to the patient’s inappropriate behavior in a therapeutic manner
• Demonstrates knowledge of perioperative factors that alter the immediate postoperative phase
• Utilizes nursing procedures as a medium for communication and interaction with the patient
• Identifies physical symptoms and changes and takes appropriate action promptly
• Completes treatments as ordered or within one (1) hour, if appropriate
• Demonstrates knowledge of airway management and procedures and the ability to use the equipment
• Demonstrates ability to assess cardio-respiratory systems for changes and provides appropriate treatment
• Observes behavioral and physiologic changes due to medications, takes appropriate actions, and documents
• Adjusts and acts upon expectations of the patient’s behavior, according to the effect medication has on the patient
• Demonstrates ability to provide specific care to postoperative neonate, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients
• Carries out medical/surgical asepsis during treatments and special procedures
• Carries out established techniques for safe administration of medications and parenteral fluids, according to hospital policies and procedures
• Follows the five (5) medication rights and reduces the potential for medication errors
• Carries out safety measures to prevent the patient from harming him/herself or others
• Coordinates patient care; gives explanations and teaching to patient/family, as necessary
• Protects patients’ sensitivities and right to privacy.
