Job summary

UAB Medicine seeks a Nursing leader for the Medical Intensive Care Unit at UAB St. Vincent's East. The role focuses on coordinating unit staffing, guiding nursing teams, and ensuring high-quality patient care during full-time night shifts.

The ideal candidate will hold an accredited nursing diploma, an active RN license in Alabama, and BLS, with ACLS/PALS as required by units. Experience in staff education and performance evaluation is valued.

Qualifications

• Diploma from an accredited school/college of nursing and professional licensure/certification required.
• 1 year of cumulative job specific experience required.
• BLS Provider within 1 month of hire date; ACLS/PALS may be required in some units within 6 months; RN license by Alabama Board of Nursing.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate unit staffing and provide leadership while ensuring implementation of clinical objectives and quality patient care.
• Assign, direct, educate and monitor nursing and support staff during assigned shift; participate in performance evaluations.
• Assess daily patient care needs and develop and distribute patient care assignments.
• Evaluate effectiveness of patient care and identify issues affecting outcomes.
• Respond to complaints about patient care and manage through established channels.
• May provide input for hiring, training, directing, development and evaluating staff.

Our Medical Intensive Care (MICU) at UAB St. Vincent's East features 12 beds where we provide quality intensive care for adult and geriatric patients with complex medical needs. Managed by a dedicated intensivist team, we offer a structured team approach and offer a dynamic environment for clinical growth

Job Description

Coordinate unit staffing and provide leadership while ensuring implementation of clinicalobjectives and quality patient care in assigned area.

• Assign, direct, educate and monitor nursing and support staff during assigned shift. Contribute toor perform performance evaluations of staff.


• Assess daily patient care needs and develop and distribute patient care assignments, ensuring that population appropriate patient care is given.


• Evaluate the effectiveness of patient care and identify any issues that affect desired patient outcomes.


• Responds to complaints about patient care and manage through established channels.

Qualifications

Licensure / Certification / Registration:

• BLS Provider obtained within 1 Month (30 days) of hire date or job transfer date required. American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted.


• ACLS and PALS may be reguired in some units (Step Down, ED and ICU) within 6-months of date hire or transfer.


• Currently licensed as a Registered Nurse (RN) by the Alabama Board of Nursing required.

Education:

• Diploma from an accredited school/college of nursing and professional licensure/certification required. 1 year of cumulative job specific experience required
