Job summary

Nazareth Hospital in Philadelphia is seeking a Charge Nurse for the Intensive Care Unit to lead nursing care on our night shift. This full-time RN role requires applying professional standards and collaborating with the care team to ensure high-quality outcomes.

You will guide staff, manage patient flow, participate in governance, and uphold service excellence while stewarding resources in a fast-paced hospital environment.

Qualifications

• BSN or BS/BA in Nursing required.
• Current PA RN license required.
• BLS certification required; ACLS preferred by orientation.

Position Purpose

The Charge Nurse is a Registered Nurse (RN) who works in a collaborative environment at Nazareth Hospital to plan & provide professional nursing services & standards of practice in accordance with level of experience & education, state board of nursing & established policies & procedures. The RN integrates the art, science, leadership & knowledge of nursing clinical practice through relationship-centered, compassionate, ethical & respectful direct / indirect healthcare services.

As a Charge Nurse, You Will

• Practice is guided by nursing process & policy / procedure / standards.
• Maintains focused area of expertise for care / program &/or provides interventions or knowledge within niche areas of care / program.
• Advances professional / shared governance, collaborates inter & intra-professionally, delegates to others to advance care, assumes an expanded role & increased responsibility.
• Participates with unit leadership in development and improvement of departmental processes.
• Facilitates patient flow both in and out of the nursing unit as well as enhances teamwork by providing guidance and support to all staff.
• Takes responsibility for Outcomes Management, ensures that patient care is optimal and timely and that patient outcomes are within defined parameters.
• Participates with unit leadership in development of Service Line initiatives and guiding staff in successfully completing process change.
• Exhibits positive service excellence skills to patients, visitors and colleagues by greeting others in a friendly manner, keeping them informed about progress, delays and changes.
• Demonstrates stewardship by thoughtful and responsible use of resources including maintaining a clean and hospitable environment, starting work on time, maintaining good attendance and displaying a conscientious attitude towards costs, supplies and departmental finances.
• Actively participates in Shared Governance activities through direct participation on committees, counsels or work groups.
• Maintains awareness of department operations on all shifts/days.
• Reviews minutes and obtains reports to ensure accurate knowledge.
• Accepts accountability for staying informed about changes in the unit, in the service line and the organization.

Minimum Qualifications

• BSN or BS/BA degree in Nursing required.
• Current RN Pennsylvania state license required.
• Current BLS required. ACLS required or obtained by completion of orientation if applicable to area of practice.
• Previous acute care experience preferred.
