Job summary

Medical University of South Carolina seeks a Registered Nurse - Clinical Documentation Specialist I to review inpatient records and collaborate with providers to ensure accurate DRG assignment reflecting illness severity and risk of mortality.

The role requires a BSN and active SC nursing licensure, with 5+ years of nursing experience including pediatric inpatient or ED exposure. CDI experience is highly preferred and collaboration across disciplines is essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in nursing and an active RN license.
• 5+ years of nursing experience with at least 3 years in Pediatric Inpatient or Emergency Department settings preferred.
• CDI experience highly preferred and strong knowledge of clinical measurement tools.

Responsibilities

• Review inpatient electronic medical records to identify missing, vague, or incomplete diagnoses.
• Collaborate with providers to ensure documentation supports accurate DRG assignment and patient severity of illness and risk of mortality.
• Interprets quality metrics and participates in ICCE meetings, QAPIs, and related educational opportunities across the system.
• Support CDI initiatives and baseline understanding of interpreting quality metrics across the organization.
