Behavioral Health Adult Inpatient Unit

Providing treatment to individuals age 18-65 with acute psychiatric illness or exacerbation of severe mental health disorders. Patients may also have comorbid substance abuse disorders and medical comorbidities. Unit comprises 28 beds.

Behavioral Health Geriatric Unit

Providing treatment to individuals age 65 and over with acute psychiatric illness or exacerbation of severe mental health disorders. Patients may have common medical comorbidities associated with chronic illnesses. Unit comprises 10 beds.

General Overview

The Registered Nurse assesses human responses and plans, implements, and evaluates nursing care for patients on the unit. The RN is fully responsible for all nursing actions and is accountable to patients for the quality of care delivered.

Essential Responsibilities
  • Provides leadership in a professional practice setting.
  • Supports team building by mentoring and role modeling.
  • Assigns and delegates tasks based on patient needs and staff skill level.
  • Maintains a safe environment and evaluates patient condition and complexity of interventions.

  • Supervises and evaluates delegated LPN scope of practice as appropriate.
  • Utilizes the nursing process to assess, plan, evaluate, and implement patient care plans according to physician, nurse, and hospital policy.
  • Derives culturally and age‑appropriate expected outcomes involving patients, families, and other healthcare providers.
  • Analyzes health status of patients and families to determine care needs.
  • Assesses patient conditions, notifies supervising staff, intervenes, and documents appropriately.
  • Accepts assignments outside primary unit and performs duties within competency.
  • Demonstrates commitment to continuous lifelong learning for self and others.
  • Promotes advancement of the profession through participation in professional organizations.
  • Seeks formal and independent learning activities using current research to maintain and develop clinical and professional skills.
  • Participates in systematic peer review and obtains informal feedback regarding practice from patients, peers, and professionals.

Qualifications
Minimum
  • Act 34 Criminal Background Clearance Certificate
  • Act 33 Child Abuse Clearance Certificate

  • Current State of PA RN licensure or Current multi‑state licensure through the Enhanced Nurse Licensure Compact (eNLC).
  • CPR certification
