Montefiore Mount Vernon Hospital is seeking a Registered Nurse to deliver comprehensive nursing care. You will develop nursing diagnoses, coordinate with the care team, and educate patients and families on conditions and self-care.

The role requires NYS RN licensure, AS degree, BLS, and infection control certification with 1–3 years of clinical experience; hospital setting and psych exposure a plus.

Job Summary Delivers Nursing Care by developing a nursing diagnosis; establishing nursing care objectives; defining nursing interventions; providing physical, emotional, psychological, and spiritual support to patients, families, and friends to understand patient conditions, medications, and self-care skills; noting changing conditions and needs; re-evaluating care objectives.

Essential Functions Provides patient care by reviewing physician prescriptions; communicating the nursing care plan and all pertinent information to other members of the health care team; coordinating with other healthcare providers; providing physical, emotional, psychological, and spiritual support to patients, families, and friends; conferring with physicians.

Develops nursing care plans by obtaining medical histories; examining patients; documenting patient physical condition, psychological status, and influencing social factors; conferring with family and friends; developing a nursing diagnosis; establishing nursing care objectives; defining nursing interventions, schedules, and timetables.

Teaches healthcare requirements by establishing patient care goals; instructing patient, family, and friends to understand condition, medications, and self-care skills; answering questions; providing information and resources.

Evaluates patient care by adhering to therapeutic standards; measuring health outcomes against patient care standards; reviewing patient records; noting changing conditions and needs; re-evaluating care objectives; modifying nursing care plan.

Assures quality care by adhering to professional standards, healthcare organization policies and procedures, federal, state, and local requirements, and Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO) standards; maintaining cooperative relationships among healthcare team members.

Maintains safe, secure, and healthy patient care environment by adhering to infection-control policies and protocols, medication administration and storage procedures, and controlled substance regulations; adhering to organization standards and policies, and to legal regulations; alerting others regarding potential concerns.

Documents patient care services by charting in patient and department records.

Protects healthcare organization value by keeping information confidential; cautioning others regarding potential breaches.

Keeps patient care equipment operating by following operating instructions and established procedures; troubleshooting breakdowns; maintaining supplies; performing preventive maintenance; calling for repairs.

Keeps patient care supplies ready by checking stock; anticipating needs; placing and expediting orders; verifying receipt; stocking items.

Improves nursing job knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; benchmarking state-of-the-art practices; participating in professional societies.

Contributes to nursing and healthcare organization success by welcoming related, different, and new requests; helping others accomplish job results.

Qualifications

• AS Degree Required
• BSN Preferred
• NYS Registered RN Licensure Required
• BLS and Infection Control Certification Required
• 1-3 years Experience working in a clinical environment. Experience in Psych a plus
• Knowledge of patient rights and laws relative to those rights, such as HIPAA
• Ability is required to perform assessments and nursing functions as acquired in the basic nursing preparation program
• Excellent communication skills both written and verbal
• Ability to build comprehensive reports and effectively convey information to others.
