Job summary

Corewell Health Southfield Center is seeking a Part-time Night RN to coordinate patient throughput and bed management. You will prioritize bed assignments for inpatient admissions and transfers, collaborating with physicians and interprofessional teams to ensure timely, safe patient placement.

The role requires a nursing degree with MI RN license; BSN preferred and 3 years of acute care experience. Strong EPIC skills and leadership are essential.

Qualifications

  • Required Associate's Degree; graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
  • Preferred BSN or higher.
  • 3 years of relevant experience in acute hospital nursing.
  • RN - State of Michigan license upon hire.

Responsibilities

  • Assess and prioritize bed placement and transfers based on patient condition and bed availability.
  • Plan and direct bed placement requests by evaluating pending discharges and transfers.
  • Communicate with medical staff and clinical teams to facilitate placement; escalate barriers as needed.
  • Maintain service levels by handling calls promptly and adhering to policies.
  • Demonstrate competence with EPIC applications related to Bed Management.
  • Delegate tasks for patient placement as appropriate.
  • Collaborate with administration to resolve issues from census fluctuations.
  • Provide leadership, mentor peers, and participate in orientation of new staff.
  • Stay updated on healthcare trends affecting patient placement decisions.
  • Participate in process improvement to enhance patient safety and outcomes.

Scope of work

Responsible for ensuring the safe, successful and timely coordination of patient throughput associated with Corewell Health East. Supports safe bed assignment and patient flow including, but not limited to, bed assignments for all inpatient admissions (elective, direct, emergent/nonemergent) and inter- and intra- hospital transfer of patients. Prioritizes patient placement per hospital policy and infection control requirements. Utilizes critical thinking within the framework of the nursing process, while incorporating the principles of patient-family centered care. Assists in identifying and resolving operational issues pertinent to patient placement and throughput by collaborating with physicians and interdisciplinary teams. Evaluates and coordinates patient flow processes.

  • Utilize clinical expertise to assess and prioritize patient bed placement and transfers based on urgency of patient’s condition and utilization of available beds.
  • Plan, prioritize and direct patient placement requests by evaluating pending discharges, transfers, and bed availability.
  • Communicate with medical staff, clinical and operational teams to facilitate appropriate patient placement. Escalate barriers through established chain of command.
  • Maintain service level commitments by handling calls in a timely manner. Adhere to appropriate standards of practice, policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrate competence in the use of EPIC applications as they pertain to Bed Management.
  • Delegate tasks as indicated for patient placement.
  • Address and work in collaboration with administration to resolve issues arising from increased census and decreased bed availability.
  • Demonstrate leadership in the professional practice setting and is responsible for continuing personal education, mentoring peers and participating in orientation of new staff.
  • Stay up to date with current healthcare trends and initiatives and their impact on clinical decisions pertaining to patient placement.
  • Complete a self-appraisal that includes professional goals annually and completes peer reviews.
  • Actively participate in process improvement initiatives to improve patient safety and outcomes.

Qualifications
  • Required Associate's Degree Graduate of an accredited school of nursing
  • Preferred Bachelor's Degree BSN or higher
  • 3 years of relevant experience Relevant nursing experience within an acute hospital setting, including but not limited to inpatient adult, pediatrics and critical care, emergency and urgent care. Required
  • Registered Nurse (RN) - State of Michigan Upon Hire required
