Summa Health System – Barberton Campus is seeking an Assistant Nurse Manager for the 2E Cardiac Progressive Care Unit. This full-time role requires evening shifts with flexibility to cover 24-hour patient care operations, weekends, holidays, and on-call duties.

The position supports the RN Nurse Manager, leads a 34-bed unit, and focuses on safe, efficient patient care with strong teamwork and leadership skills.

Qualifications

Graduate of a CCNE or ACEN-accredited nursing program.
BSN required; Master’s degree preferred.
Current Ohio nursing license to practice.
Clinical Certification preferred or required within two years.

Act as unit-based resource supporting the RN Nurse Manager for 24-hour patient care operations.
Plan and develop short-, mid-, and long-term goals to improve unit operations.

Assistant Nurse Manager - 2E Cardiac Progressive Care Unit
Full-Time, 40 hrs/week, afternoons/evenings

Position is primarily evening shift with flexibility required to support 24-hour patient care operations. Hours may vary based on departmental needs and include weekends, holidays, rotating off-shift coverage, and on-call responsibilities. Serves as a unit-based resource supporting the RN Nurse Manager in maintaining safe, effective operations and continuity of care across all shifts.

Primary patient population: This unit primarily provides progressive cardiac care to adult patients with cardiovascular, pulmonary, neurovascular, and stroke-related conditions, using continuous telemetry monitoring for complex, higher-acuity cases. It's a strong setting to sharpen advanced assessment, telemetry interpretation, and clinical decision-making skills.
Unit Size: 34-bed unit
Target Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: 1:4 to 1:5 *subject to change based on census numbers and patient care needs

Summary

Serves as a unit-based resource that supports the RN Nurse Manager in the patient care operations for a designated area(s) on a 24-hour basis; plans and develops tactical short, mid- and long-term goals and processes to enhance and improve the operations of the unit to support Summa Health’s mission, vision and values; identify barriers to meeting goals; manages, guides, coaches, and evaluates the work performance of patient care staff in a designated area; collaborates with other patient care departments and areas that relate directly or indirectly to patient care operations and services; assists with the management of unit budget plans; assists with calculating a return on investment for unit initiatives; participates in development of evidence-based standards of practice; identifies opportunities for improvement in patient care and organizational processes.

Formal Education Required

Graduate of a program of professional nursing that is accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) or Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN)
BSN required
Master’s degree preferred
Clinical Certification preferred or required to obtain within two (2) years
Current license to practice nursing in the State of Ohio

Experience & Training Required

Three (3) years of clinical nursing experience and demonstrated leadership qualities
