Responsibilities

The Assistant Manager of Skilled Nursing/ADON supervises and evaluates nursing personnel within their assigned facility or service area. This role works closely with the nursing manager or Director of Nursing (DON) to ensure high-quality patient care and compliance with all regulations. Responsibilities include coordinating patient assignments, staff scheduling, patient flow, and supporting financial targets through effective management of resources and personnel.

  1. Assist the nursing manager/DON in planning, developing, and supervising daily nursing activities and staffing needs.
  2. Collaborate with facility leaders to develop, implement, and evaluate policies ensuring regulatory compliance.
  3. Oversee clinical operations and quality assurance, monitor nursing care delivery, and participate in clinical assessments and meetings.
  4. Provide coverage for the nursing manager/DON and support direct patient care as needed.
  5. Manage medication practices, including administration, storage, and documentation, ensuring regulatory compliance.
  6. Coordinate ongoing staff education and training to enhance clinical skills and knowledge.
  7. Ensure compliance with regulations, participate in audits and inspections, and stay updated on regulatory changes.
  8. Maintain effective communication with staff, residents, families, and external stakeholders.
  9. Manage employee engagement and people processes, including hiring, performance evaluations, and disciplinary actions, in collaboration with Human Resources.
  10. Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Education:

  • High School Diploma, High School Equivalency (HSE), or Completion of an IEP Certificate approved by CHS.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing is preferred.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 2 years relevant healthcare experience.
  • Leadership experience in healthcare settings.
  • Experience in skilled nursing or long-term care is preferred.

Licenses and Certifications:

  • Current and valid RN license for California required; or
  • Both of the following are required: a valid LVN license and RN license within 180 days of hire or transfer.
  • Current BLS certification from AHA required.
