Job summary

OU Health is seeking an experienced RN Ambulatory II to coordinate the Tzield program in the Children’s Endocrinology/Diabetes Clinic in Oklahoma City. The role supports ambulatory care, maintains nursing standards, and upholds OU Health values.

The RN will care for complex patients, assist physicians, manage medications and IV infusions, and collaborate with clinic staff to ensure safe, high-quality patient care. A BSN/ADN and active RN license are required.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of patient care experience as an RN.
• Current RN license in Oklahoma or a multistate compact (eNLC).
• Basic Life Support certification required upon hire; specialty certifications preferred (e.g., CDCES).

Responsibilities

• Document patient responses to interventions and updates to physician orders.
• Assist physicians with patient examinations and minor diagnostic procedures; progress to more complex procedures.

• Initiate and monitor IV infusions and blood products.
• Deliver patient care competently and seek coaching as needed.
• Resolve patient complaints in a timely manner with staff support.
• Inform patients and families about procedures and care plans during care and discharge.
• Refer patients to appropriate personnel for care needs.
• Foster growth, mentorship, and ongoing professional certification/licensure.
• Develop a professional career plan and set personal goals aligned with metrics.

This position is for our Endocrinology/Diabetes Clinic.

General Description:

An OU Health Registered Nurse (RN) Ambulatory II works under general supervision and provides nursing care in an ambulatory setting to a variety of patients with health problems ranging from simple to complex. They are a critical link within their department in maintaining and modeling nursing practice standards and upholding the nursing code of ethics to ensure the highest quality of safe, patient care. RN II represents the competent nurse who meets expectations outlined in the baseline job description while advancing to proficiency. Experience in similar situations allows this nurse to use conscious and deliberate planning resulting in efficiency and organization. They can cope with contingencies and changes in situations. They are able to care for complex patients requiring a high level of technical and clinical skills. They work faster and more efficiently, and are team focused, becoming more astute in complex problem solving.

Essential Responsibilities

• Aligns behaviors with OU Health values and maintains nursing professional practice standards.
• Assumes responsibility for an assigned patient, group of patients, or patients to be seen by service/clinic.
• Documents patient responses to nursing interventions and prescribed medical treatments, noting all changes in physician order on assigned patients.
• Assists physician in the examination of patients and in performing minor diagnostic procedures and treatment. Progressing in knowledge, skills and abilities for more complex procedures and treatment modalities.
• Obtains and monitors physiological data of patients, observes the physiological manifestations of patients, and intervenes when necessary.
• Administers medication as prescribed.
• Initiates, regulates and monitors intravenous infusions and blood products.
• Delivers patient care competently; seeks coaching and mentoring from others as needed.
• Resolves patient complaints in a timely manner in accordance with policy and in collaboration with support staff.
• Informs patient and family of clinic and/or unit procedures and shares care plan during the time of care and at the time of discharge.
• Makes referrals regarding patient care needs to appropriate personnel.
• Fosters a growth mindset through seeking mentorship, remaining open to coaching and feedback, and maintaining professional certification(s)/licensure in order to perpetually develop and uphold the skills required for proficiency within the nursing profession.
• Develops a professional career plan and establishes personal, performance goals in alignment with enterprise-wide metrics, frequently measuring progress with department leadership.

Minimum Qualifications

Education: Associate's or Bachelor's Degree in Nursing.

Experience:3+ years of experience in patient care as a Registered Nurse required.

License/Certification/Registration:

• Current Registered Nurse License (RN License issued by the Oklahoma State Board of Nursing, or a current multistate compact Registered Nurse (eNLC)).
• Basic Life Support (American Heart Association) certification required upon hire.
• Specialty certification(s) preferred, such as a CDCES certification (Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist).
