OU Health is seeking an experienced RN Ambulatory II for our Edmond, OK ambulatory clinics. Under general supervision, you will provide nursing care to a diverse patient population, uphold nursing standards and ethics, and contribute to the OU Health Way by demonstrating Patients First, Relentless Excellence, Integrity, Inclusion, Learning, and Teamwork.

Requirements include Associate's or Bachelor's in Nursing, 3+ years of RN experience, Oklahoma RN license (or eNLC), BLS at hire, and specialty

Qualifications

  • Education: Associate's or Bachelor's Degree in Nursing.
  • Experience: 3+ years of experience in patient care as a Registered Nurse required.
  • License/Certification/Registration: Current RN License (OK State Board or eNLC).
  • Basic Life Support (AHA) certification required upon hire.
  • Specialty certification(s) preferred.

  • Assumes responsibility for an assigned patient, group of patients, or patients to be seen by service/clinic.
  • Documents patient responses to nursing interventions and prescribed treatments.

  • Obtains and monitors physiological data; intervenes as needed.
  • Administers medication as prescribed.
  • Initiates and monitors IV infusions and blood products.
  • Delivers patient care competently and seeks mentorship as needed.
  • Resolves patient complaints in a timely manner with policy guidance.
  • Informs patient/family of procedures and care plan at discharge.
  • Makes referrals for patient care needs.
  • Fosters a growth mindset and maintains certification/licensure.

Job Description:

General Description: An OU Health Registered Nurse (RN) Ambulatory II works under general supervision and provides nursing care in an ambulatory setting to a variety of patients with health problems ranging from simple to complex. They are a critical link within their department in maintaining and modeling nursing practice standards and upholding the nursing code of ethics to ensure the highest quality of safe, patient care. RN II represents the competent nurse who meets expectations outlined in the baseline job description while advancing to proficiency. Experience in similar situations allows this nurse to use conscious and deliberate planning resulting in efficiency and organization. They can cope with contingencies and changes in situations. They are able to care for complex patients requiring a high level of technical and clinical skills. They work faster and more efficiently, and are team focused, becoming more astute in complex problem solving.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Documents patient responses to nursing interventions and prescribed medical treatments, noting all changes in physician order on assigned patients.
  • Assists physician in the examination of patients and in performing minor diagnostic procedures and treatment. Progressing in knowledge, skills and abilities for more complex procedures and treatment modalities.
  • Obtains and monitors physiological data of patients, observes the physiological manifestations of patients, and intervenes when necessary.
  • Administers medication as prescribed.
  • Initiates, regulates and monitors intravenous infusions and blood products.
  • Delivers patient care competently; seeks coaching and mentoring from others as needed.
  • Resolves patient complaints in a timely manner in accordance with policy and in collaboration with support staff.
  • Informs patient and family of clinic and/or unit procedures and shares care plan during the time of care and at the time of discharge.
  • Makes referrals regarding patient care needs to appropriate personnel.
  • Fosters a growth mindset through seeking mentorship, remaining open to coaching and feedback, and maintaining professional certification(s)/licensure in order to perpetually develop and uphold the skills required for proficiency within the nursing profession.
  • Develops a professional career plan and establishes personal, performance goals in alignment with enterprise-wide metrics, frequently measuring progress with department leadership.
  • Fosters an inclusive workforce where individual differences are valued and maximized to achieve OU Health's winning aspiration.
  • Delegates tasks to clinical support staff as needed.
  • Interacts with the family and patient in sharing care plan(s) while in the hospital and at the time of discharge.
  • Provides feedback and opportunities for others to learn though formal and informal methods.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Education: Associate's or Bachelor's Degree in Nursing.
  • Experience: 3+ years of experience in patient care as a Registered Nurse required.
  • License/Certification/Registration: Current Registered Nurse License (RN License issued by the Oklahoma State Board of Nursing, or a current multistate compact Registered Nurse (eNLC)).
  • Basic Life Support (American Heart Association) certification required upon hire.
  • Specialty certification(s) preferred.

  • Knowledge of advanced professional nursing theory, practices, techniques, and procedures.
  • Ability to organize, plan, coordinate, and evaluate nursing services and apply nursing techniques. Can work independently and as a contributing member of the team.
  • Ability to maintain civility and good working relationships with other employees.
  • Ability to respond effectively to cultural and language needs of patients and visitors.
  • Skilled in computer applications designed to ensure quality and safety measures for patients.
  • Ability to establish and maintain integrity and trust with patients by advocating in the patient's best interest.

  • Ability to maintain compliance accreditation with local, state, and federal regulatory standards.
