Position Title

RN - Ambulatory Clinic - ENT KU MedWest, Medical Pavilion

Position Summary / Career Interest: The ambulatory clinic professional registered nurse has the authority, responsibility, and shift accountability for the delivery of nursing care using the nursing process. The RN accepts accountability, applies competent clinical knowledge, and uses independent nursing judgment for care provided by self and delegated to healthcare providers to achieve quality patient care outcomes. The RN must also possess the ability to assess and interpret patient data to identify each patient’s age-specific needs.

Responsibilities and Essential Job Functions
  1. Provides direct patient care within the ambulatory setting, based on the nursing process and within role/scope of practice.
  2. Performs preliminary assessment of patients through observation and chart review to facilitate appropriate follow-up with the healthcare team.
  3. Evaluates unstable or complex patient care situations and facilitates appropriate intervention.
  4. Implements appropriate clinical decisions and demonstrates effective use of expert peers and/or management as applicable.
  5. Accepts accountability and uses independent nursing judgment for care provided by self and delegated to healthcare providers.
  6. Demonstrates the appropriate use of standards, effective use of resources, and evaluation of patient response in care delivery.
  7. Identifies teach/learning needs of patients.
  8. Provides educational instruction to patients and families with healthcare needs.
  9. Evaluates the effectiveness of patient and family teaching and documents in patient charts.
  10. Responds to/refers incoming patient treatment-related phone calls.
  11. Completes necessary forms (e.g., FMLA, DME, Home Health orders) and obtains physician signatures as appropriate.
  12. Performs professional, clinical, and technical competencies of the assigned unit or department.
  13. Other duties as assigned, depending on department or unit needs.
Required Education and Experience
  • High School Graduate
  • Associate Degree in Nursing
  • 6 months of RN experience
  • 2 or more years of RN experience for PRN Ambulatory Clinic RN
Preferred Education and Experience
  • Bachelor Degree in Nursing
Required Licensure and Certification
  • Licensed Registered Nurse (LRN) - Multi-State - State Board of Nursing. Must have a current, active multistate RN license in good standing in your state or an active single-state RN license with proof of application for multistate licensure. Staff hired before 2/1/2024 must obtain a multistate license by 3/31/2026.
  • Basic Life Support Heartsaver (BLS HS) - American Heart Association or obtained within 14 days.
