Overview

The SBU unit at Mercy Ardmore is a 13-bed locked unit that cares for senior patients with psychiatric disorders, primarily dementia with behavioral disturbances, but also depression, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, anxiety, and other psychiatric conditions. Patients are over 62, medically stable, and participate in daily group therapy and individual counseling as needed.

Procedures include medication administration, Foley and IV care, wound care, assistance with ADLs and mobility. Patients stay about 11 days, allowing staff to build strong relationships. The team includes psychiatrists, nurse practitioners, hospitalists, dieticians, pastoral care, discharge planners, social workers, therapists, and speech pathologists. Family visits are encouraged.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited nursing program (Associate's, Diploma, or BSN)
• Current RN license in the state or compact license
• Ability to lift 50 pounds, stand and walk for long periods, and perform physical tasks
• New or experienced RN welcome
• Basic Life Support certification (American Heart Association), with course completion within 30 days of hire
