They practice in a clinical environment that is administered by Nurse Managers and other leaders and is supported through the Wellstar Shared Governance Model. The framework for practice is steered by the Wellstar Professional Practice Model, evidence-based practice, and research. RN competencies are derived from these models and supported by the Wellstar Values.

Job Summary

The RN Clinical Nurse is a proactive member of an interdisciplinary team of licensed and unlicensed care givers who ensure that patients, families, and significant others receive individualized high-quality, safe patient care. All RN Clinical Nurses are expected to be licensed, knowledgeable, and uphold the practice of nursing as outlined by the Georgia Professional Nurse Practice Act. They must implement the Scope of Practice and Code of Ethics Standards put forth by the American Nurses Association. As members of the patient services team, they uphold the voice of the patient, adhere to system policies and procedures, and support service excellence goals.

Core Responsibilities And Essential Functions

Exemplary Practice and Outcomes

  1. Performs the Nursing Process (assessment, diagnosis, identification of outcomes, planning, implementation, and evaluation) in clinical care, using evidence-based practice, analytical/critical thinking, and ensuring individualized care. Coordinates care through effective partnerships, recognizing that caring is central to achieving optimal patient care outcomes.
  2. Provides relationship-based, patient-centered care that reflects population-specific characteristics (e.g., age, gender, disease) and adapts service delivery to cultural diversity.
  3. Partners with patients and significant others (as appropriate) using methods such as bedside shift reports, interdisciplinary rounds, patient teaching, and keeping patients and families updated, making patient goals the focus of the care plan.

Teamwork and Collaboration

  1. Coordinates delivery and documentation of safe, quality patient care, promoting the professional care delivery model. Uses diverse communication methods, completes timely documentation, and fosters a respectful, inclusive environment.
  2. Demonstrates teamwork by practicing in a manner that is fiscally responsible and promotes recruitment and retention of healthcare team members.
  3. Participates in performance improvement activities, research, and shared governance to promote safe, quality care, including initiating or leading improvement activities.

Professional Development and Initiative

  1. Completes all initial and ongoing professional competency assessments, mandatory education, and population-specific training.
  2. Serves as a preceptor and/or mentor to ensure a qualified workforce, modeling professional nursing practice and fostering a healthy work environment.

Evidence-Based Practice and Research

  1. Promotes evidence-based practice, nursing research, and performance improvement activities, including value analysis for patient care products.
  2. Upholds all healthcare policies, procedures, and clinical standards, ensuring compliance with legal, regulatory, and accreditation requirements, such as TJC Patient Safety Goals and Wellstar safety absolutes.
  3. Participates in data collection, formulates clinical questions, consults experts, and uses evidence to address practice issues.

Resources and Support

  1. Proactively plans patient care across the continuum during direct care.
  2. Contributes to protocol and procedure development to improve outcomes (e.g., reduce readmissions, adverse events).
  3. Supports efficient resource utilization.

Minimum Education

  • Associate's Degree in nursing or graduation from an accredited nursing school (Required)
  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (Preferred)

Minimum Licenses and Certifications

  • Registered Nurse (Single State) upon hire (Required)
  • RN - Multi-state Compact upon hire (Required)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) (Required)
