Job Summary
The RN Clinical Nurse is a proactive member of an interdisciplinary team of licensed and unlicensed care givers who ensure that patients, families, and significant others receive individualized high-quality, safe patient care. They practice in a clinical environment supported by Nurse Managers and leadership, guided by the Wellstar Shared Governance Model, the Wellstar Professional Practice Model, and evidence-based practice. RN competencies are aligned with these models and supported by Wellstar Values.
All RN Clinical Nurses must be licensed, knowledgeable, and uphold the practice of nursing as per the Georgia Professional Nurse Practice Act, implementing the Scope of Practice and Code of Ethics Standards by the American Nurses Association. As part of the patient services team, they must uphold patient advocacy, adhere to system policies, and support service excellence goals.
Core Responsibilities And Essential Functions
Exemplary Practice and Outcomes
- Performs the Nursing Process (assessment, diagnosis, outcomes identification, planning, implementation, evaluation) using evidence-based practice, critical thinking, and individualized care, coordinating effectively with team members to achieve optimal patient outcomes.
- Provides relationship-based, patient-centered care tailored to population-specific characteristics (age, gender, disease, etc.), reflecting cultural awareness.
- Partners with patients and families using appropriate communication methods (e.g., bedside reports, rounds, teaching) to keep them informed and focused on their goals.
- Practices according to current clinical standards.
Teamwork and Collaboration
- Coordinates safe, quality care documentation and delivery, fostering respectful, inclusive interdisciplinary communication and timely documentation.
- Demonstrates teamwork by practicing responsibly and supporting recruitment and retention of healthcare staff.
- Supports performance improvement activities, research, and shared governance to promote safe, quality care.
Professional Development and Initiative
- Completes professional competency assessments, mandatory, and population-specific education.
- Serves as preceptor or mentor to foster a qualified workforce and a healthy work environment.
Evidence-Based Practice and Research
- Promotes evidence-based practice, research, and performance improvement, participating in activities like value analysis.
- Adheres to healthcare policies, standards, and compliance requirements, including safety goals.
- Engages in data collection, clinical inquiry, and consults experts to address practice questions.
Resources and Support
- Plans patient care proactively across the continuum.
- Develops protocols collaboratively to improve outcomes (e.g., reduce readmissions, adverse events).
- Supports resource efficiency.
Performs other duties as assigned and complies with all organizational policies, standards, and codes of conduct.
Minimum Education
- Associates or Bachelors in Nursing (Preferred)
Licenses and Certifications
- Registered Nurse (Single State) or RN - Multi-state Compact
- Basic Life Support (BLS) - Instructor required upon hire
Experience
- Minimum 5 Years RN experience, preferred in direct patient care
Skills
- Proficiency in English, technology use, and basic computer skills
- Strong interpersonal, customer service, and teamwork skills
- Ability to respond effectively in fast-paced and emergency situations
- Excellent time management, critical thinking, and evidence-based practice skills
