Job description

Position Overview

Staff RN – 9 Trauma Medical Surgical Position. This 45-bed medical-surgical unit provides care to trauma patients who are hemodynamically and medically stable. The unit accepts patients from the Emergency Department, the ICU, or surgical or procedural services.

Shift Details

Full-time and part-time night shifts.

Responsibilities
  • Provide, prescribe, delegate, and coordinate nursing care with other healthcare providers to meet the holistic care needs of the designated patients.
  • Play an active role in a fast-paced unit focused on the acute and chronic needs of trauma patients.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in nursing (BSN) required unless candidate meets all the factors to qualify for Exception A or Exception B.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Demonstrated initiative, teamwork, and flexibility.
  • Licensed as a Registered Nurse in the state of Nebraska or holding a current compact state license.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from an American Heart Association endorsed program.
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification, required department dependent and for the Emergency Department within six months of hire.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification within six months of hire or transfer date, department dependent.
  • Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) or Advanced Trauma Care for Nurses (ATCN) within one year of hire or transfer date, department dependent.
Exception Details
  • Exception A - Candidate meets all of the following:
    1. Has current experience directly applicable to the position.
    2. Is deemed the best candidate for the position.
    3. Has written approval to hire a candidate without a BSN from the hiring Director, Nursing Practice Professional Development & Informatics Executive Director and Chief Nursing Officer.
    4. If hired without a BSN, must either have 30 years of experience or sign a written agreement to obtain a BSN within four years of hire date.
  • Exception B - Candidate meets all of the following:
    1. Is currently employed by Nebraska Medicine, or is eligible for rehire within 364 days of the previous termination date.
    2. Was hired by Nebraska Medicine before November 21 2014, or by an entity acquired by Nebraska Medicine before the acquisition.
    3. Has experience directly applicable to the position.
    4. Currently holds a Registered Nursing License.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Direct patient care experience.
  • Experience in cardiology, cardiac drip management, critical care, emergency department, medical-surgical, obstetrics, cardiovascular rehabilitation, telemetry, oncology, neonatal intensive care, pediatric acute care, solid organ transplant, cath lab, EP lab, quality assurance, perioperative and special procedures.
  • Master's of Science in Nursing (MSN) degree.
  • Courses such as STABLE, smoking cessation counseling, basic critical care, or other specialty training.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and email applications.
  • Proficiency with departmental equipment, patient care systems, telecommunication systems, information systems, pneumatic tube system, and transport equipment.
