Primary Patient Population: This unit provides specialized care in Epilepsy Monitoring, focusing on the treatment of medical patients.

Unit Size: 17‑bed unit

Target Nurse‑to‑Patient Ratio: 1:5* (subject to change based on census numbers and patient care needs)

Summary

Guided by knowledge of the basic principles of nursing based on the biological, physical, and psycho‑social sciences, the RN utilizes judgment supported by evidence and nursing theory in the delivery of nursing care. Provides, coordinates, and/or delegates nursing care and manages resources for patients, families, and the community, aiming to attain, maintain, and restore optimum health.

Formal Education Required

• Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing (BSN)
• Graduate of a program of professional nursing accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) or Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN)
• Current license to practice registered nursing in the State of Ohio

Applicants with an Associate’s degree will be considered but must obtain a BSN within three (3) years of employment.

Experience and Training Required

• PRN RN’s must have at least one year of recent experience in the area of practice.
• One year of related RN experience is required for weekend option positions.
• Additional related previous experience and/or preparation may be required for specialty units.

Other Skills, Competencies, and Qualifications

• Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity, and eye‑hand coordination.
• Requires standing and walking for extended periods of time.
• Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range.
• Requires working under stressful conditions or irregular hours.
• Requires exposure to communicable disease, body fluids, toxic substances, ionizing radiation, and other potentially hazardous conditions common to a clinical environment.
• Maintains current Basic Life Support certification; all nurses new to critical care, progressive care, medical telemetry, PACU, and ED must complete Advanced Cardiac Life Support within the first six months and maintain a current ACLS certification. Experienced RNs hired into areas requiring ACLS are expected to have an ACLS certification upon hire or must complete it within six weeks.

Population Specific Competency

• Additional education or certifications may be required for specialty areas (e.g., PALS, NIH, Non‑Violet Crisis Intervention, etc.).
• Ability to effectively interact with populations of patients/customers with an understanding of their needs for self‑respect, dignity, and diversity.

Level of Physical Demands

• Heavy: Exerts 50‑100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 25 to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or 10 to 20 pounds of force continuously to move objects.
