Job summary

The Prairie Research Institute (PRI) at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign is seeking a Scientific Specialist in Large River Ecology for the INHS/PRI program to conduct basic and applied research on macroinvertebrates as part of LTRM.

This 100% full-time, on-site position is located at the Illinois River Biological Station in Havana, IL, with duties including lab coordination, data management, and methodologies for macroinvertebrate monitoring.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in biology, aquatic ecology, statistics, ecological statistics, or related field.
• Experience with macroinvertebrate sampling and identification.
• Experience conducting macroinvertebrate monitoring on large rivers with various gear types.

Responsibilities

• Assist with lab coordination for the Macroinvertebrate component of the LTRM.
• Collect and report on macroinvertebrate data using LTRM protocols.
• Coordinate processing of benthic and colonizer samples across field stations.
• Train technicians in sorting and identifying macroinvertebrate samples.
• Archive, organize, and manage data files for historical datasets.
