Job summary

The River Basin Commission Coordinator role with the Department of Environmental Protection in Pennsylvania supports interstate coordination on shared water resources. You will interpret interstate regulations, coordinate document reviews, and align programs with commission requirements to advance water policy.

As a member of DEP, you will participate in workgroups, manage fiscal coding, and support contracts and watershed initiatives.

Qualifications

• Three years of professional environmental protection experience and a bachelor’s degree in a related field, or an equivalent combination.
• Possess and maintain a valid Pennsylvania driver’s license.
• Residency in Pennsylvania and ability to travel interstate as required.

The River Basin Commission Coordinator position with the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) offers a meaningful opportunity to support cooperation among states on shared water resources. This role allows you to engage with interstate partners and help advance policies that protect and manage vital waterways. You will contribute to programs that promote responsible resource use and strengthen collaboration.

This position supports interstate coordination related to shared water resources and assists with program evaluation, policy alignment, and communication among partners. As a River Basin Commission Coordinator, you will perform the following duties:

• Regulation Interpretation:Interpret regulations, guidance, and procedures of interstate river basin commissions to ensure consistency with DEP policies
• Review Coordination:Coordinate review of documents requiring commissioner approval and collaborate with legal, policy, and regional offices
• Program Alignment:Recommend program changes and support implementation of efforts aligned with interstate commission requirements
• Meeting Participation:Participate in commission workgroups and represent the Commonwealth during meetings and discussions
• Fiscal Management:Track invoices, assign fiscal coding, and coordinate with state fiscal offices to support commission funding needs
• Technical Support:Assist with contracts, agreements, and targeted watershed efforts to advance integrated water program goals

Work Schedule and Additional Information

• Full-time employment
• Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
• This position requires occasional interstate travel.
• Telework:You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time, up to 3 days per week. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Harrisburg. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time. QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

• Three years of professional environmental protection experience; and a bachelor’s degree in the biological, physical, or environmental sciences, engineering, or in a field closely related to environmental protection or regulation; or
• An equivalent combination of experience and training that includes three years of professional environmental protection experience.

Condition of Employment

• This position requires possession of a valid Pennsylvania driver’s license.
