St. Mary’s County Metropolitan Commission seeks a Safety and Risk Manager to administer the Commission’s risk management program and oversee safety training.
This role creates, updates, and revises safety programs, coordinates employee certifications, and conducts on-site training to ensure OSHA compliance. The position reports to the Chief Human Resources Officer and involves claims processing oversight, liaison with insurers, and safety inspections of facilities and vehicles.
Job Summary: Administers and manages the Commission’s risk management program. Creates, updates and revises the Commissions safety programs as necessary; administers and coordinates the Commissions safety training programs; coordinates training programs to maintain individual employee certifications and licences. Reports to the Chief Human Resources Officer.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (These are pre-employment KSA that apply only to Essential Job Functions):
Required Qualifications (Note: Any acceptable combination of education, training and relevant experience that provides the above knowledge, abilities and skills may be substituted on a full‑time year for year basis.)
Training and/or Education:
Bachelor’s Degree in Safety and Occupational Health or related field and five (5) years of utility or construction industry safety experience.
Experience:
Or equivalent technical training, education, and/or experience
Licenses or Certificates:
Must possess a valid Maryland driver’s license, Class C

Work Schedule:
This position is eligible to telework two days per week with Director approval

Work environment involves everyday risks or discomforts which require normal safety precautions typical of such places as offices, meeting or training rooms, residences, or commercial vehicles e.g., use of safe work place practices with office equipment, and/or avoidance of trips and falls, and observance of fire regulations and traffic signals.
