Job summary

Montana Credit Union is hiring a Risk Management Supervisor to oversee enterprise risk management, fraud prevention, loss control, and vendor management. The role requires five+ years in financial institution risk management or related fields, with supervisory experience preferred.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, Criminal Justice, Risk Management, or related field.
  • Minimum of five years of experience in financial institution risk management, fraud investigation, security, compliance, BSA/AML, internal audit, vendor management, operations, or related field.
  • Previous supervisory or leadership experience in a financial institution preferred.
  • Experience conducting investigations, evaluating internal controls, completing risk assessments, or administering vendor management activities preferred.
  • CUERC certification preferred; CBSAP designation preferred or willingness to obtain within timeframe.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Risk Management Supervisor is responsible for overseeing Montana Credit Union's enterprise risk management, fraud prevention, loss control, vendor management, internal controls, and risk education programs. This position identifies, assesses, mitigates, and reports risks that may impact the credit union's operations, financial condition, reputation, members, employees, assets, or strategic objectives.

The Risk Management Supervisor leads fraud investigations, administers enterprise-wide risk assessments, evaluates security and loss-prevention practices, and recommends policies, procedures, safeguards, and controls designed to reduce organizational risk. This role works closely with employees, department managers, Senior Leadership, law enforcement agencies, regulatory authorities, vendors, and other external partners to support a strong risk management culture. The position also provides reports, analyses, and recommendations to the Board of Directors and Supervisory Committee as needed.

In addition, the Risk Management Supervisor serves as a designated backup to the Compliance Officer/Internal Auditor for assigned Bank Secrecy Act (BSA)/Anti-Money Laundering (AML) responsibilities, FinCEN Section 314(a) requests, and internal audit support functions.

This position plays a critical role in protecting Montana Credit Union's members, assets, and reputation while supporting the organization's strategic goals and commitment to exceptional member service.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
  • Strong understanding of enterprise risk management, fraud prevention, credit union security, loss control, internal controls, vendor management, and insurance risk.
  • Working knowledge of BSA/AML requirements, FinCEN Section 314(a), privacy requirements, record retention practices, and applicable financial institution regulations.
  • Knowledge of fraud schemes involving checks, cards, electronic payments, online banking, identity theft, account takeover, loans, and social engineering.
  • Skilled in conducting investigations, analyzing transactions, documenting findings, preserving evidence, and communicating with law enforcement.
  • Ability to research and interpret laws, regulations, policies, procedures, security standards, and regulatory guidance.
  • Ability to evaluate complex information, identify risk exposure, and recommend practical mitigation strategies.
  • Ability to develop, administer, and evaluate effective fraud, security, compliance, and risk management training.
  • Strong written, verbal, presentation, organization, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel, and able to learn fraud-monitoring, core-processing, reporting, and risk-management systems.
  • Reliable, approachable, flexible, detail-oriented, and committed to operational excellence and continuous improvement.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, Criminal Justice, Risk Management, or a related field preferred.
  • Minimum of five years of experience in financial institution risk management, fraud investigation, security, compliance, BSA/AML, internal audit, vendor management, operations, or a related field required.
  • Previous supervisory or leadership experience in a financial institution preferred.
  • Experience conducting investigations, evaluating internal controls, completing risk assessments, or administering vendor management activities preferred.
  • Credit Union Enterprise Risk Certification (CUERC) preferred. Ability and willingness to obtain the CUERC or another applicable professional certification within an established timeframe may be required.
  • Certified Bank Secrecy Act Professional (CBSAP), preferred. Ability and willingness to obtain the CBSAP designation within established timeframe may be required.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
SALARY
  • 60,000 to 75,000 DOE
