We are hoping you will join us as a Risk Management/Insurance Analyst (Financial Analyst III) and help shape the future of healthcare where you'll be an integral part of our FIN - Financial Compliance team, helping to strive for excellence while we serve our member health with dignity, respecting the value and needs of each of our members through collaboration with our providers, community partners and local stakeholders. This position has been approved to be Full Office.

  • If telework is approved, you are required to work within the State of California only and if Partial Telework, also come in to the Main Office in Orange, CA, at least two (2) days per week minimum.

The Financial Analyst III (Insurance Risk) will support the Director III of Financial Compliance in all aspects of the administration of CalOptima Health's corporate insurance programs. Under minimal supervision, you will interact directly with brokers, carriers and CalOptima Health business teams, including Legal, Human Resources, Contracting and Procurement and Vendor Management. You will serve as a subject matter expert on all facets of business insurance. You will support the procurement of insurance coverage, manage insurance claims and maintain relationships with third party service providers, including property management company, brokers and insurers. In collaboration with management, you will also identify exposures and recommend solutions, including new insurance coverages. You will be responsible for updating and monitoring compliance with insurance procedures. Together, we are building a stronger, more equitable health system.

Your Contributions To the Team:
  • 90% - Corporate Insurance Support
    • Participates in a mission-driven culture of high-quality performance, with a member focus on customer service, consistency, dignity and accountability.
    • Assists the team in carrying out department responsibilities and collaborates with other departments to support short- and long-term goals/priorities for the department.
    • Leads the annual renewals for all lines of insurance, including initiating application requests from insurance brokers, gathering coverage requirements from business units, compiling data for applications and submitting applications and supporting documents to brokers.
    • Administers all aspects of CalOptima Health's insurance program, including monitoring receipt of and reviewing for accuracy all insurance binders, policies and endorsements; reviewing and processing premium payments; requesting certificates of insurance from brokers; maintaining policy files; reporting to state agencies as required; and responding to internal/external inquiries regarding insurance programs.
    • Oversees the resolution of claims with brokers/carriers in accordance with department and company policies and procedures.
    • Calculates the allocation of insurance premiums to tenants for property management company and the allocation of annual insurance premiums to each owned property for the Budget team.
    • Evaluates and identifies opportunities to improve existing coverage and procure additional lines of insurance where risk exposure necessitates.
    • Responds to Procurement and Vendor Management with contract and insurance questions for construction related projects and conducts discussions with brokers as appropriate.
    • Collaborates with Procurement and Vendor Management and Contracting with reviews of insurance language and indemnification provisions in contracts, leases and agreements with medical and non-medical vendors, to protect the organization and ensure compliance with contractual requirements.
    • Reviews and approves vendor Certificates of Insurance to ensure compliance with contractual requirements.
    • Prepares annual Schedule of Insurance to capture details of all insurance programs and premiums.
    • Prepares insurance program presentations for board of directors and sub-committees.
    • Responds to requests from senior management pertaining to insurance programs as well as issues of interest to board of directors.
  • 10% - Other
    • Completes other projects and duties as assigned.
Do You Have What the Role Requires?
  • Bachelor's degree in business administration, finance, risk management and insurance or related field PLUS 5 years of experience in a corporate risk management department or with an insurance broker required; an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the position such as those listed above may also be qualifying.
  • Have access to means of transportation for work away from the primary office approximately 5% of the time required.
