Job summary

AMERICAN ELECTRIC POWER is seeking a data-focused risk analyst to update contract data and track volumetric hedge positions for booked business. You will monitor market trends, energy supply fundamentals across RTOs, and audit the company’s portfolio of signed contracts.

The role requires intermediate Excel skills, plus SQL and VBA knowledge as a plus. A Bachelor’s degree in business and one year energy experience is preferred.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree required in business disciplines such as Finance, Accounting, Economics, Math, etc.
  • Intermediate Excel skills (pivot tables, lookups, complex spreadsheets) and strong analytical ability.
  • SQL and VBA skills are a plus with interest to develop them further.

Responsibilities

  • Perform daily maintenance of risk positions and market deal valuations.
  • Research market changes and regulatory filings.
  • Perform ad hoc analysis to determine customer usage behavior and pricing impacts.
  • Coordinate with Pricing and Usage Data Management to implement usage profiles in Risk database.
  • Recommend and test enhancements to Risk systems and processes.
  • Execute SOX and business controls for volumetric tracking across Risk, Pricing, and Billing systems.
  • Audit contract data to ensure data integrity and forecasting accuracy.
  • Create custom reports from the risk database.
  • Coordinate Renewable Portfolio Standard and Green-E building requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with EIA and other governmental reporting requirements.

Job Summary

Job Description
WHAT YOU’LL DO
  • Perform daily maintenance of risk positions and market deal valuations

  • Devise and generate custom reports out of risk database

  • Ensure compliance with EIA and other governmental reporting requirements
What We’re Looking For
Education

Bachelor’s Degree required in business discipline such as Finance, Accounting, Economics, Math etc. Other degrees will be considered based on experience.

Experience

one (1) year of energy experience in an analytical is a plus, but not required.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

Intermediate Excel skills (pivot tables, lookups, complex spreadsheet design); Effective problem-solving skills: ability to work from concept to analytics, identify alternatives and develop unique solutions; General intelligence with inquisitive and investigative attitude; Interest in energy industry, specifically deregulated electricity and natural gas; SQL and VBA skills a plus with an interest to further develop skills
