Job summary

Jobtailor seeks a Risk Control professional to work with underwriters, clients, and brokers to assess and mitigate risk. You will evaluate inherent risk factors, differentiate accounts, and travel to sites as needed to deliver risk control services.

Ideal candidates have a strong insurance background, environmental health and safety education, and at least five years in safety or risk control. Certifications such as ASP/CSP/ARM/CFPS are preferred, with a valid driver's license required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or graduate degree in environmental health and safety, engineering, construction management, or a related field.
  • Strong knowledge of the insurance industry and business acumen.
  • Certifications such as ASP, CSP, ARM, CFPS.
  • Five years of experience in safety, risk control/management, or related field.
  • Valid driver's license.

Responsibilities

  • Provide the Underwriter with account knowledge on hazards, controls, and management.
  • Evaluate how a company identifies and manages inherent risk factors.
  • Differentiate the account from others in similar classes of business.
  • Maintain onsite presence with customers (20%–50%).
  • Travel to customers, including long-distance and multi-night trips.
  • Partner with Underwriting to select, retain, and grow a profitable book.
  • Build relationships with Underwriting, Claim, Risk Control Specialists, and Brokers.
  • Complete risk assessments for moderate to high complex accounts.
  • Write detailed reports communicating risk assessments and recommendations.
  • Identify customer needs through loss analysis to provide risk control services.
  • Identify exposures to influence corrective actions to mitigate loss.
  • Provide risk mitigation solutions using our resources.
  • Stay current with technical topics, regulations, and issues.
  • Create a valued customer experience with each assessment.

Job description

Responsibilities
  • Provide the Underwriter with account knowledge as it relates to hazards, controls, and management.
  • Evaluate how a company identifies and manages its inherent risk factors.
  • Differentiate the account from others in similar classes of business.
  • Maintain a consistent field presence, spending approximately 20% - 50% of the time onsite with customers.
  • Travel to customers, which may entail long-distance, overnight travel, and/or multi-night trips depending on the needs of the business and alignment with territory and/or geography.
  • Partner and have joint ownership with Underwriting to select, retain, and grow a profitable book of business.
  • Build and maintain productive relationships with Underwriting, Claim, Risk Control Specialists, and Brokers to service customers as a unified team.
  • Complete risk assessment evaluations for moderate to high complex accounts with potential for severe losses, multi-location companies, and larger fleet exposures and generally business with significant exposures.
  • Write technically detailed reports that communicate a clear assessment of risk and effectively articulate recommendations.
  • Discover and evaluate customer needs through loss analysis and customer readiness in order to provide Risk Control products and services to help control losses.
  • Identify uncontrolled exposures to influence the customer to make improvements and take corrective actions to mitigate the potential for loss.
  • Provide solutions to assist the customer in risk mitigation through the use of our extensive span of resources.
  • Stay current with technical subject matters, regulatory environment and emerging issues.
  • Create a valued customer experience through each assessment and service encounter.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's or graduate degree in environmental health and safety, engineering, construction management, basic sciences and related technical fields.
  • Strong level knowledge of insurance industry and business acumen.
  • Recognized relevant certifications (such as ASP, CSP, ARM, CFPS).
  • Technical aptitude, detail oriented.
  • Superior communication skills - both written and verbal.
  • Ability to quickly establish credibility and rapport with all others.
  • Experience working in a collaborative environment.

  • Five years of experience in safety, risk control/management, or a related field, such as occupational/environmental health and safety, science, engineering, construction, manufacturing, or relevant military experience.
  • Valid driver's license.
