Job summary

Acuity is seeking an experienced Risk Control Consultant to conduct surveys and prepare survey reports for the Commercial Underwriting department. This role provides loss control guidance to policyholders and agents and helps implement safety programs.

The territory covers Metro Chicago and surrounding counties with occasional travel to other territories. Requirements include a Bachelor's in Safety/Engineering/Science and five years of risk control (or ten years in safety).

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Safety, Engineering, Science, or equivalent.
  • Five years risk control experience with a multi-line insurer or ten years in a safety-related field.
  • Must have a valid driver's license and acceptable MVR.
  • Acuity does not sponsor U.S. work authorization.

Responsibilities

  • Collects information on prospects and policyholders to assess conformity with underwriting standards.
  • Prepares objective survey reports evaluating accounts against peers.
  • Conducts service calls to assist loss-control efforts and recommends improvements.
  • Utilizes resources like A.M. Best, NFPA, OSHA, and DOT in assessments.
  • Travel within the Metro Chicago area and occasionally to other territories.

Description

Acuity is seeking an experienced Risk Control Consultant to conduct surveys and prepare survey reports for the Commercial Underwriting department. This individual will provide loss control assistance and advice to policyholders and agents. In addition, this role will make recommendations to reduce the severity and frequency of loss exposures at insured accounts. They also assist in creating and implementing custom safety and training programs for service accounts. This territory will cover the Metro Chicago and surrounding counties.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Collects appropriate information on prospects and policyholders regarding the degree to which they conform to company underwriting standards and industry best practices. This process includes a thorough review of operations, analysis of loss history, analysis of hazards and controls, and recognition of key risk differential features.
  • Prepares objective written reports that evaluate and grade accounts in comparison to other like businesses.
  • Meets productivity and timeliness goals per company standards.
  • Conducts regular service calls to assist policyholders with their loss control efforts by helping them establish effective hazard controls. Submits recommendations for account improvement conforming to company and applicable consensus standards.
  • Effective utilization of technical resources such as A.M. Best, NFPA, OSHA, and DOT.
  • Studies safety magazines, publications, and company distributed directives.
  • Assists in safety meetings and/or supervisory training sessions at policyholder’s locations.
  • Maintains contacts with agency personnel in their territory.
  • Actively participates in personal developmental activities to expand technical knowledge and to stay current on industry topics.
  • Be available to travel throughout the assigned territory as well as occasional travel to other territories as needed.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and acceptable motor vehicle record to operate a corporate vehicle.
  • Regular and predicable attendance.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION:

A college degree from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's Degree in Safety, Engineering, Science, or other acceptable curriculum or equivalent.

EXPERIENCE:

Five years experience in risk control with a multi-line insurance company or ten years experience in a safety related field.

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS:

Ability to work well with policyholders, prospects, agents, and company personnel.

Must have functional PC skills.

This job is classified as exempt.

The salary range for this position is $105,000 - $160,000 annually. This salary range is an estimate, and the actual salary will vary based on applicant’s education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities.
