Job description

UPMC Health Plan and WorkPartners is seeking a full-time Risk Control Consultant to join our Workers' Compensation Risk Control team. This position is based out of the U.S. Steel Tower in downtown Pittsburgh, though it will primarily operate in a remote capacity. Local travel to client sites throughout the Greater Pittsburgh area is required, with mileage reimbursed at the current IRS rate.

The Risk Control Consultant will report to the Manager of Risk Control Services and will be responsible for delivering risk control services to UPMC facilities. This includes providing technical guidance and account insights to underwriting partners to support risk assessment and analysis. While the role offers a high degree of autonomy, consultants will receive managerial oversight and review of reports to ensure quality and consistency

Responsibilities:

  • Analyzes loss information to identify causes, develop recommendations, and recognize opportunities to provide risk control products and/or services which can help reduce losses.

  • Conduct risk control surveys/safety program analyses at client locations to determine potential hazards and risk factors to be considered in underwriting/risk selection.

  • Write technically detailed reports that provide a clear assessment of risk and clearly articulate recommendations.

  • Serve as resource to risk control, underwriting, and claims departments on class of business, operations, OSHA issues, or any other technical subject requiring similar analysis.

  • Build and maintain productive and credible relationships with assigned underwriting and claims teams, the broker/agent community, other risk control staff, and with clients.

  • Maintain current knowledge of regulatory environment and emerging safety issues.

  • Write technically detailed reports that provide a clear assessment of risk and clearly articulate recommendations.

  • Consult with clients on ways to control hazards in order to reduce or prevent injuries.

  • Regularly influence clients to implement recommendations.

  • Creates customer satisfaction by demonstrating the value of safety and risk control services.

  • Familiar with the risk control service tools available to clients.

  • Receives direction and prioritization of workload from management in light of business priorities.

  • Identifies methods for improving personal productivity

  • Maintain timely, relevant communications with the risk control manager.

  • BA/BS in Occupational Safety and Health studies, Physical Science, or Risk Management earned from an accredited program from an accredited college or university required (relevant experience in risk control will be considered in lieu of degree)

  • Minimum of two (2) years of risk control or increasing levels of responsibility in related operations.

  • Drivers license and reliable means of transportation is strongly preferred.

  • Strong problem-solving and technical aptitude

  • Skilled in Microsoft Office; understands when to engage specialistsLicensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
