Job summary

Scheels Corporate Office in Fargo, ND seeks a Risk and Safety Leader to oversee safety and insurance practices across all Scheels locations and on Campus. You will collaborate with Store teams, HR, Legal, and Asset Protection to implement best practices.

The role focuses on training, COI management, incident review, workers' comp coordination, fleet safety, and risk data analysis, with travel to stores as needed.

Qualifications

• Associate degree in Business, HR, Occupational Safety, or related field preferred
• 2-3 years experience leading associates preferred
• Experience in HR/Asset Protection a plus
• Proven track record of strong communication and organization skills

Responsibilities

• Oversee safety and insurance practices across Scheels locations and campus
• Develop training materials for risk and safety
• Request Certificates of Insurance from vendors and track COIs
• Review and file incident reports
• Travel to Scheels locations for store visits and new store setups to ensure safety procedures
• Coordinate Workers' Compensation claims handling and insurance matters
• Oversee fleet vehicle program including DOT and MVR monitoring
• Work with Legal and Campus leaders on risk mitigation and safety training
• Coordinate CPR certification and safety training across locations
• Analyze safety data to identify risks and improvement opportunities

Overview:

The Risk and Safety Leader position will be responsible for helping to oversee safety and insurance practices across all SCHEELS locations and on Campus. This position will work closely with Store teams, Human Resources, Line Leader Office, Legal, and Asset Protection.

Responsibilities:

• Work in conjunction with the stores & Campus in developing best practices for associate and customer safety
• Develop training materials for associates and leadership teams related to risk and safety
• Request required Certificates of Insurance from vendors, answer insurance-related questions, and work with Vendor Compliance to appropriately track and update COIs for vendors
• Assist with review and filing of incident reports
• Travel to Scheels locations for store visits and new store setups to ensure safety procedures are implemented appropriately, and policies related to risk and safety are followed
• Assist stores with Workers' Compensation claims handling
• Oversee Fleet vehicle program to include DOT, Dash Cam program, and MVR monitoring
• Assist with all matters related to insurance claims (including workers’ compensation, auto, and general liability claims)
• Work closely with SCHEELS teams on safety training, store safety audits, and risk identification across Scheels locations
• Coordinate CPR certification and training across Scheels locations
• Work with Legal and LLOF to identify, evaluate, and mitigate vendor-related risk
• Work with stores to coordinate and support Ferris Wheel and other SCHEELS attraction safety training and compliance
• Analyze company-wide safety data and trends to identify areas of risk and opportunities for improvement
• Self-empowered with strong time management skills
• Knowledge and experience with Microsoft Excel and Gmail

• Strong oral / written communication and presentation skills to communicate effectively and in a timely manner with all levels of the organization

Education & Experience:

• The ideal candidate will have an associate’s degree in Business, HR, Occupational Safety, or a related field preferred; and/or 2-3 years of experience
• Experience in leading associates at a high level
• Preference for candidates with prior HR/Asset Protection (2-3 years) and/or Scheels Leadership experience
• Proven track record of strong communication and organization skills
