Job summary

Telluride Ski and Golf is seeking a Risk Manager to lead occupational safety, risk assessment, and incident investigations across the mountain operations. The role focuses on proactive safety culture, training, and compliance with applicable laws.

Responsibilities include managing OSHA programs, assisting with workers' compensation processes, radios management, and supporting security with testing as needed. The position requires weekend/holiday shifts and ability to ski/ride at expert level.

Qualifications

  • 2-4 years of experience in Risk Management or Safety.
  • Strong ability to develop and implement safety programs and training.
  • Experience with OSHA compliance and incident investigations.

Job description

Position Summary

Provides risk management support for TSG Ski and Golf, LLC with the main goal to be creating and maintaining a safe environment for our staff and guests. This is a dynamic role designed for someone who enjoys being out on the mountain just as much as they enjoy building a strong, proactive safety culture behind the scenes.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Occupational Health and Safety:
  • Serve as the resort's day to day point of contact for occupational safety and health matters
  • Develop, implement, and maintain OSHA compliance programs, including OSHA 300 recordkeeping and the companywide Hazard Communication and SDS programs
  • Review and update Job Hazard Analyses (JHA's) in partnership with department managers
  • Develop, deliver, and track department specific training on relevant protocols
  • Conduct safety walkthroughs, audits, and incident follow-ups across departments
  • Partner with department leaders to build and reinforce a culture of safety
  • Create and maintain employee safety training materials and documentation
  • Assist the Security team with drug and alcohol testing as needed
Workers' Compensation Support:
  • Assist the Director of Risk Management in administering the workers' compensation claims process
  • Submit First Report of Injury documentation for work comp claims
  • Investigate employee injuries and near misses to determine root cause
  • Identify injury trends and recommend mitigation strategies and targeted training
  • Prepare return to work documentation for modified duty assignments
  • Participate in claims reviews with the insurance provider
  • Maintain employee files in compliance with HIPAA requirements
Radio Fleet Management:
  • Manage inventory of the resort's handheld radio fleet
  • Program, configure, and maintain radios for use across departments
  • Coordinate repair, replacement, and procurement of radio equipment
  • Train staff on proper radio use and communication protocols
Risk Manager / Mountain Operations:
  • Serve as Risk Manager for the mountain, providing frontline response support for safety incidents
  • Assist with incident investigations across all departments
  • Support compliance with the Colorado Ski Safety Act and reinforce the Skier Responsibility Code
General Duties:
  • Adhere to Telluride Ski and Golf policies and procedures
  • Provide a guest experience that exceeds expectations
  • Support additional projects and administrative duties as assigned by the Director of Risk Management
  • Assist other departments and staff as needed
Qualifications

Education and/or Experience

2-4 years of experience in Risk Management, Occupational Safety, Public Health, Mountain Operations/Ski Resort Management, or a related field is preferred. Or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Language Skills

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write clear reports and correspondence. Ability to present safety training effectively to groups of employees.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions, percentages, and basic statistics for tracking safety and injury trends. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to solve practical problems and exercise independent judgment in situation with limited standardization. Ability to interpret instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Computer Skills

Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel. Willingness to learn new software and technology, including ADP payroll systems, Motorola Radio Management software, Microsoft Power Automate, and the ArcGIS platform (Survey123, SiteScan, etc.).

Other Qualifications:
  • Must be able to work weekends, holidays, and overtime as needed
  • Must be able to function effectively at elevations of 10,000 feet or higher
  • Must be able to function effectively in inclement weather conditions
  • Must be able to ski/ride at an expert level
  • Must understand mountain operations

The wage for this position is $25.00-$30.00/hr DOE
