Job summary

Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) in New York region is seeking a GIS specialist in the Mitigation Division. The role focuses on creating flood hazard mapping products through FEMA's Risk Mapping, Assessment and Planning (MAP) program using current GIS software.

Ideal candidates will have experience preparing and communicating GIS maps, risk assessments, and using HAZUS or similar risk-analysis tools to support map products and floodplain mapping; federal experience is welcomed.

Job description

This position is located in FEMA region 2, Mitigation Division. The ideal candidate for this position will have experience using current industry standard Geographic Information Systems (GIS)software and loss prevention tools to create products that support flood hazard mapping through FEMA's Risk Mapping, Assessment and Planning (MAP) program.

Qualifications: Current Federal employees must have served 52 weeks at the next lower grade or equivalent grade band in the Federal service.

The qualification requirements listed below must be met by the closing date of this announcement.

To qualify for this position at the GS-12 level, you must possess one full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-11 level in the Federal government, which has equipped you with the skills needed to successfully perform the duties of the position.

Experience may be obtained in the federal government, a state or local government, or private sector, and must demonstrate the following:

  1. Preparing and communicating GIS mapping to support floodplain mapping;
  2. Preparing GIS based risk assessments;
  3. Experience using HAZUS and/or risk analysis in the creation of risk map products.
