Job summary

Motive is seeking an experienced underwriting professional to join Risk Management. You will review financial risk for new and existing customers, evaluate applications, and decide approvals or exceptions in line with policy guidelines.

Collaborate with sales, data science and product teams to deliver an outstanding customer experience while maintaining risk controls and regulatory compliance across the U.S. market.

Qualifications

  • 2-3+ years of underwriting experience in financial services, high-growth payments, or fintech
  • Strong critical reasoning, problem solving and analytical skills
  • Ability to work independently and thrive in a collaborative team environment
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Familiar with fundamentals of financial risk assessment
  • Familiar with U.S. compliance, lending & regulatory environment (KYC, Reg B, Reg Z, UDAAP, FCBA, TILA)
  • Experience with quantitative and qualitative analysis
  • Strong organization and time management skills
  • Proven experience with bank based & financial underwriting
  • Highly motivated, organized, reliable, and has demonstrated competency in mathematics and financial spreading

Responsibilities

  • Collect, review and analyze applicants' relevant financial, demographic, and historic information and records
  • Analyze business financial statements such as balance sheets, income statements and cash flow statements, bank statements, and credit reports
  • Directly communicate with clients & sales about application status
  • Clearly articulate why and when additional documents are needed to determine creditworthiness
  • Make determinations to approve, decline or seek exceptions based on policy guidelines
  • Make timely, quality decisions within SLA
  • Perform portfolio management, evaluating and identifying suspicious items
  • Recommend policy and process improvements to mitigate failure points in underwriting
  • Bank statement analysis, financial spreading and risk ratio analysis culminating with underwriting memo

About the Role:

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced underwriting professional to join our Risk Management team. As an experienced underwriter, you will be responsible for reviewing and assessing the financial risk of new and existing customers, while making decisions based on policy guidelines. You should have experience and subject matter expertise in financial services, end-to-end underwriting lifecycle, portfolio management, bank statement and financial decisioning, and risk assessment. You’ll evaluate applications, perform analysis that mitigate financial risk, and make timely and accurate decisions on application outcomes. The successful candidate will work as a member of our Risk Organization and collaborate with members from our sales, data science, product management, and other stakeholders to deliver best in class customer experience.

What You’ll Do:
