The Philadelphia District Attorney’s Office is seeking an entry-level Assistant District Attorney to join its Law Division. The role offers exposure to Appeals, Civil Litigation, Federal Litigation, and Post-Conviction Relief Act matters, with initial assignments in Municipal Court and potential rotations.

Qualified candidates must have a J.D., pass the Pennsylvania bar, and demonstrate a commitment to public service, strong ethics, and an ability to manage a demanding workload in a busy city

Qualifications

• All qualified candidates must have earned a J.D. from an accredited law school.
• Must sit and pass the Pennsylvania bar exam.
• Commitment to public service and a strong academic record.
• Capacity for fairness and empathy, a strong work ethic, and ability to manage a demanding workload.
• Sound problem-solving and decision-making skills.
• Judicial clerkships, including Federal District and Circuit Court, are encouraged.

Responsibilities

• Write briefs and argue before appellate courts in the Appeals Unit.
• Litigate in Civil Litigation, including complex discovery, rights-related work, and employment law.
• Litigate petitions for writs of habeas corpus in federal court.
• Handle evidentiary hearings or oral arguments as ordered by courts.
• Review Post-Conviction Relief Act petitions and determine relief or dismissal.
