Job summary

Carilion Clinic in Virginia offers a Nurse Residency program (RISE) designed to support new graduates with mentorship, clinical confidence, and belonging from day one.

Residents will coordinate and provide individualized care across Carilion hospitals, with opportunities in diverse units and a sign-on bonus program up to $20,000.

Qualifications

• Graduate of a State Board of Nursing approved program.
• Virginia RN license or eligibility required.
• Life Support: BLS-HCP required; ACLS/PALS/NRP may be required per unit.

Responsibilities

• Assess, plans, implements, and evaluates patient care to achieve optimum outcomes.
• Collaborates with health care team to develop and evaluate plan of care.
• Administers treatments and medications; documents in EMR.
• Identifies educational needs of patient/family and provides support.
• Contributes to performance improvement and orients new staff.

Revises plan according to changes in patient status.* Administers treatments and medications for patients and documents utilizing automated computer systems, including electronic medical records.* Identifies patient/family (caregiver) educational needs, incorporates into care plan.* Contributes to Carilion Clinic’s performance improvement activities.* Supports the patient as patient advocate, protector of patient’s rights, and provider of psychological/social/cultural support. Facilitates resolution between patient and staff if needed.* Determines and performs within clinical, leadership, and/or education pathways to support (direct/indirect) evidenced based, quality patient care service and performance improvement.* Utilizes clinical expertise in rapidly changing circumstances.* Strategizes to reduce patient length of stay, turnaround time, resource consumption and improve patient outcomes.* Functions as role model for clinical practice to coworker, students, and physicians.* Manages resources, establishes priorities, and modifies environment to meet patient care needs.* Orientes new employees. Provides feedback to staff* Provides input into practice, environment, and work issues by participating on unit, hospital, and/or system activities which facilitates staff participation/input in decision making.* Assists with providing education activities for unit/department.# **What We Require:****Education:** Graduate of a State Board of Nursing approved program required.**Experience:** None.**Licensure, Certification, and/or Registration:** Current Registered Nurse license in the Commonwealth of Virginia required or eligibility to obtain licensure required.**Life Support:** AHA BLS-HCP required. Additional certifications such as ACLS, PALS, or NRP may be required based on assigned work area.**Other Minimum Qualifications:** Keyboarding skills and computer literacy required, including use of electronic medical records. For Behavioral Health roles, de-escalation training must be completed within 1 year of hire and maintained.
