Rippowam Middle School: Long-term Substitute Social Studies Teacher

Join Stamford Public Schools as a Long-term Substitute Social Studies Teacher at Rippowam Middle School. This position is contingent upon continued funding in the Board of Education budget.

Note: Teachers dually certified in TESOL, Bilingual Education, or ESL, with experience in Sheltered Instruction or fluency in a language other than English, will be given preference.

Job Description – Social Studies Teacher

General Statement: A competent Social Studies Teacher understands growth and development, demonstrates knowledge of the curriculum, and helps students develop positive self-concepts. The teacher stimulates independence, assesses student needs, and plans instruction to meet objectives, including those for exceptional students. Effective communication with students, parents, and colleagues, along with the use of appropriate techniques and materials, fosters a positive learning environment. The teacher also commits to professional growth and community involvement.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Possesses knowledge of the subject matter.
  • Understands human growth and development in relation to teaching.

Qualifications:
  • Valid Connecticut teacher certificate in 026-History & Social Studies, 7-12, or 226-History & Social Studies, Middle School, 4–8.
  • Proven excellence in teaching the relevant subject and level.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with staff and administrators.
  • Strong organizational skills and task completion.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of relevant technology tools and systems.
Certification:

This position requires certification from the Connecticut State Department of Education. Candidates without current certification but holding a Bachelor's degree and 12 credits in the content area may be eligible for Long-Term Substitute Authorization.

Compensation:

$155 per day
