About BPI Medical

BPI Medical is a leading provider of medical instrument and endoscope repair services. Founded in 1976 in Fife, Washington, we serve hospitals, surgery centers, and health systems across all 48 contiguous states with flexible endoscope repair, rigid endoscope repair, surgical instrument repair, power equipment repair, and mobile on-site service. We operate as an ISO 13485:2016 certified facility and are trusted by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, MultiCare Health System, Virginia Mason Franciscan Health, and other anchor health systems to keep critical surgical and diagnostic equipment in service.

Our work directly supports patient care: every device that comes through our facility goes back into service, often the same week, ready for the next procedure. We are growing — significantly — and we are investing in the people, systems, and processes that will let us keep delivering on what has been our standard since 1976: it has to be right, and it has to be fast, no exceptions.

The Role

As a Rigid Endoscope Repair Technician at BPI Medical, you restore high-precision optical instruments — arthroscopes, laparoscopes, cystoscopes, hysteroscopes, and more — to OEM-equivalent clarity and full autoclave-cycle integrity. The scopes you repair go back into ORs at hospitals, surgery centers, and health systems we've served since 1976, including the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, MultiCare Health System, and Virginia Mason Franciscan Health. You own the device from intake through final QA release, signing the records that protect the patient on the other end.

What You'll Do
  • Diagnose, disassemble, repair, and reassemble rigid rod-lens endoscopes — arthroscopes, laparoscopes, cystoscopes, hysteroscopes, sinuscopes, and resectoscopes.
  • Reseat rod-lens optical trains, replace ocular cups, repair light posts, and rebuild distal tips and eyepieces to OEM clarity standards.
  • Replace autoclave seals and certify scopes to OEM-stated autoclave cycle counts using vacuum/pressure leak verification.
  • Work across major OEM platforms — Karl Storz, Olympus, Stryker, ACMI/Circon, Smith & Nephew — building platform-deep fluency as you advance through Tech I, Tech II, and Tech III.
  • Document every step of your work to ISO 13485 traceability standards.
  • As a senior technician, own complex repairs, mentor newer technicians, and serve as the line's technical reference.
What You Bring
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • ANY ONE of the following: completion of a biomedical, electronics, optical, or electromechanical technology program; two or more years of medical device, optical instrument, microscope/telescope, or precision-instrument repair experience; U.S. Military training in a relevant medical equipment or biomedical MOS (such as Army 68A or Air Force 4A2X1); or completion of a recognized biomedical or surgical instrument apprenticeship program.
  • Manual dexterity and fine-motor precision sufficient for rod-lens optical assemblies.
  • Ability to lift up to 35 lbs unassisted; able to work an assigned shift on-site in Fife, WA.
Nice to Have
  • OEM service training on Karl Storz, Olympus, Stryker, ACMI/Circon, or Smith & Nephew rigid scope platforms.
  • CRCST, BMET, or ISO 13485:2016 internal auditor credential.
  • Familiarity with AAMI ST79 and IEC 60601-2-18 standards.
  • Optical assembly, microscope, or telescope repair background.
  • Prior experience in an ISO 13485 or FDA 21 CFR Part 820 environment.

BPI Medical offers a comprehensive benefits package to eligible employees, including:

  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance
  • Paid time off (PTO) and paid holidays
  • Life insurance and short- and long-term disability coverage
Work Environment & Physical Demands

Optical bench work under magnification — sustained sitting and corrected-vision precision required. Frequent lifting up to 25 lbs and occasional lifting up to 35 lbs unassisted (50 lbs with assistance). PPE provided and required: safety eyewear, nitrile gloves, lab coat or repair smock. Exposure to optical adhesives, isopropanol, and minor residual bioburden on inbound devices prior to decontamination clearance. No travel.
