Job summary

General Dynamics Electric Boat in Groton, CT is seeking a skilled Rigger to support shipbuilding activities including rigging, lifting, and positioning heavy components with strict safety practices. You will read blueprints, interpret rigging charts, operate hoists and come-alongs, and ensure proper handling of loads on complex structures.

The role requires 5+ years of relevant experience, the ability to work all shifts, and the potential to obtain a secret security clearance.

Responsibilities

• Support the assembly and disassembly of machinery and equipment on and off the ships.
• Responsible for lifting, moving and positioning ships and shipyard machinery, equipment, structural parts and other heavy loads.
• Rig nuclear components and work under radiological controls.

Overview

Candidates for Rigger will be trained in the following requirements:

• Selection and use of wire rope, chain and synthetic web slings, rigging hardware, and lifting devices
• Interpretation of rated charts for rigging gear
• Safe rigging practices and procedures
• Hand and radio communications and the responsibilities of the Rigger in Charge
• Determination of weight and center of gravity of loads
• Selection and use of hoists, chain falls and come-alongs
• Lifting and Handling gear inspection

Using the above acquired skills the rigger will be expected to support the following shipbuilding processes:

• Support the assembly and disassembly of machinery and equipment on and off the ships
• Responsible for lifting, moving and positioning ships and shipyard machinery, equipment, structural parts and other heavy loads
• Rig nuclear components
• Working under radiological controls (obtain and work with a TLD). Provide emergency response to fires and accidents
