Job description

Responsibilities

1. Accurately interpret and apply information from work orders, job orders, specifications, blueprints or drawings.
2. Identify, recognize and demonstrate safe usage of hand tools and power tools appropriate for the job.
3. Recognize various materials used in the craft and demonstrate a working knowledge of appropriate material handling techniques.
4. Select and safely use appropriate equipment which may include (but not limited to) manlifts, forklifts, and company trucks.
5. Demonstrate knowledge and skills in safe rigging practices.
6. Identify, explain and perform crane signals.
7. Identify functions, operating characteristics and limitations of various pieces of heavy equipment.
8. Demonstrate ability to effectively communicate hoisting problems to appropriate personnel.
9. Demonstrate knowledge of appropriate procedures required when performing lifts near power lines.
10. Demonstrate ability to assure adequate site preparation for cranes.
11. Demonstrate ability to consistently obtain correct load weight and load placement information prior to performing any lifts.
12. Demonstrate ability to determine the number of parts of hoist line required.
13. Demonstrate ability to assemble, set up, and rig a crane properly.
14. Demonstrate ability to safely move a crane from one location to another.
15. Demonstrate appropriate procedures in shutting down and securing cranes when they are unattended.
16. Demonstrate ability to read and understand sling and shackle charts.
17. Demonstrate ability to inspect all equipment used in the lifting process including slings, cables, shackles, chains, pins, safety catches, etc.
18. Demonstrate knowledge and skills for hand rigging procedures.
19. Select gear such as cables, pulleys, and winches, according to load weights and sizes, facilities, and work schedules.
20. Attach loads to rigging to provide support or prepare them for moving, using hand and power tools.
21. Tilt, dip, and turn suspended loads to maneuver over, under, and/or around obstacles, using multi-point suspension techniques.
22. Control movement of heavy equipment through narrow openings or confined spaces, using chain falls, gin poles, gallows frames, and other equipment.
23. Test rigging to ensure safety and reliability.
24. Signal or verbally direct workers engaged in hoisting and moving loads, in order to ensure safety of workers and materials.

Qualifications

• Candidate must be NCCER certified.
