Job description

This is a public notice flyer to notify interested applicants of anticipated vacancies through Modified Direct Hire Authority. Applications will not be accepted through this flyer. Interested applicants must follow the directions in the "How to Apply" section of this flyer to be considered. There may or may not be actual vacancies filled from this flyer. Notice of Result letters will not be sent to applicants who respond to this flyer.

Duties
  1. Perform WG-05 developmental duties, as assigned, including:
  2. Assist journey-level riggers using traditional and modern rigging techniques to lift, move, and position equipment and materials.
  3. Assist higher-level riggers in safely handling, installing, and removing materials and components requiring weight handling equipment.
  4. Assist in manufacturing wire rope and fiber rope products such as nets, ladders, pendants, falls, slings, hammocks, and sword matting.
  5. Assist in the manufacture of leather and canvas covers.
  6. Assist in the prefabrication and fabrication of leather and canvas artifacts from the 18th and 19th centuries.
  7. Serve as a member of a rigging or lifting team.
  8. Follow written and/or oral instructions to determine work sequences.
  9. Assist other trades as assigned.
Requirements
  • Must be a US Citizen.
  • Must be suitable for federal employment.
  • Participate in the direct deposit pay program.

  • Retired military members within 180 days of retirement are subject to 5 U.S. Code 3326 provisions.
  • Males born after 12-31-59 must register for Selective Service.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test is required. Failure to report or pass the test will rescind the offer. Random testing applies.
  • Occasional travel may be required.
  • Must successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
  • Wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators, and safety shoes during work shifts.
  • Lift heavy weights.
  • Participate in training including sailing/underway operations onboard USS Constitution.
  • Maintain dress and grooming standards.
  • Work outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Work at heights up to 150 feet.
  • Work in confined spaces.
  • Obtain and maintain a valid US driver’s license.
Qualifications

Experience and training must demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary for the position. Qualification emphasis is on quality, not duration.
