Job summary

Ameri-Force, Inc. is seeking an experienced Marine Rigger in Newport News, VA to support shipbuilding, repair, and maintenance in a fast-paced shipyard environment. You will lift, move, and secure shipboard equipment while maintaining a strong emphasis on safety.

The ideal candidate has rigging experience with cranes and material handling, and can read load calculations. Per diem is offered for non-local candidates, with a hire bonus contingent on conditions.

Qualifications

  • Previous marine, shipyard, industrial, or heavy-construction rigging experience preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of rigging practices and safe material-handling procedures.
  • Ability to properly select rigging gear for various types of loads.
  • Understanding of load capacities, center of gravity, sling angles, and lifting points.
  • Ability to recognize unsafe rigging conditions and potential hazards.
  • Experience working around cranes, forklifts, and other heavy equipment.
  • Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a shipyard production team.
  • Must be safety-conscious and able to follow established procedures at all times.

Responsibilities

  • Rig, lift, move, position, and set shipboard machinery, equipment, structural components, piping, valves, pumps, motors, and other materials.
  • Select the appropriate rigging equipment and lifting gear based on the weight, size, configuration, and location of the load.
  • Calculate load weight, center of gravity, lift-point capacity, sling angles, and rigging requirements for safe lifting operations.
  • Inspect and utilize rigging equipment such as slings, shackles, hooks, chains, wire rope, blocks, and other lifting devices.
  • Assist with and/or operate cranes, forklifts, and other material-handling equipment as authorized and qualified.
  • Use proper hand signals and communication methods when directing crane and equipment operators.
  • Guide and control suspended loads using tag lines and other approved methods.
  • Assist with moving and positioning vessels between dry docks, piers, and outfitting berths as required.
  • Support vessel mooring and line-handling operations.
  • Erect, maintain, modify, and dismantle scaffolding and temporary work platforms as required.
  • Assist with the installation and maintenance of shipboard ventilation equipment to help maintain safe working environments.
  • Maintain and properly handle rigging tools and equipment.
  • Inspect rigging equipment before use and remove damaged or unsafe equipment from service.
  • Follow all shipyard, OSHA, company, and project-specific safety requirements.
  • Maintain clean and safe work areas throughout assigned operations.
  • Work closely with other trades to safely coordinate lifting and material-handling activities.

Marine Rigger – Shipyard

Job Summary

We are seeking experienced Marine Riggers to support shipbuilding, repair, and maintenance operations in a fast-paced shipyard environment. The Marine Rigger will be responsible for safely lifting, moving, positioning, and securing shipboard equipment, machinery, structural components, and materials.

Qualified candidates should have experience with rigging equipment, cranes, forklifts, load calculations, signaling, material handling, and shipyard safety procedures. This position requires strong attention to safety and the ability to work around heavy equipment and complex lifting operations.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Physical & Work Requirements
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull heavy materials and rigging equipment.
  • Ability to climb ladders and stairs and work on scaffolding or elevated platforms.
  • Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, reach, and work in confined or difficult-access areas.
  • Comfortable working aboard ships, in dry docks, on piers, and throughout active shipyard environments.
  • Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather and environmental conditions.
  • Must be able to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Must be able to work safely around cranes, suspended loads, forklifts, machinery, and other heavy equipment.
