Job summary

Ameri-Force, Inc. is seeking skilled trades personnel for demanding shipbuilding fabrication work in Newport News, VA.

Responsibilities include erecting and aligning hull plates, installing hull penetrations, and interpreting complex drawings and weld symbols. The role requires torch operation, familiarity with OSHA regulations, and experience with fabricating steel structures in a physically demanding environment.

Qualifications

• Ability to comprehend complex structural drawings, blueprints, and weld symbols.
• Operate burning-oxygen/propane torches and related equipment.
• Experience in shipbuilding/steel fabrication environments.
• Familiarity with OSHA regulations in the shipbuilding industry.
• Ability to read fractional dimensions using a ruler.
• Lay off parts for fabrication and assembly from drawings.

Responsibilities

• Erect, set and makeup complex hull shell plates per drawings and specs.
• Install and replace hull inserts and penetrations; assemble decks, bulkheads, and trunks as required.
• Use work packages and molded/reference lines to plan and execute tasks.
• Fabricate and assemble structural components to finish quality standards.
• Operate vibratory grinders and needle guns to prepare surfaces.

Job Description Experience:

• 1. Burning-Oxygen/Propane Burning Torch.
• 2. Heating-Oxygen/Propane Heating Torch.
• 3. Ability to comprehend complex structural assembly drawings, blueprints, and sketches to include weld symbols, material types, datum and reference lines.
• 4. Ability to comprehend fractional dimensions as with the use of a ruler.
• 5. Ability to layoff piece parts for fabrication and assembly.
• 6. Ability to assemble structural piece parts in accordance with specifications in a quality manner.
• 7. Experience working in a physically demanding environment (shipbuilding, steel fabrication, etc.).
• 8. Familiarity with OSHA regulations relative to the shipbuilding industry.
• 9. Use vibratory tools (grinders and needle guns).
• 10. Air Carbon Arc Gouging.
• 11. Ability to use Work Packages and Drawings to plan and execute work.
• 12. Ability to use Molded Lines and Ship Reference Lines to execute required work.
• 13. Ability to Erect, Set and Makeup Complex-shaped Shell Plates.
• 14. Ability to Erect, Set and Makeup Decks, Bulkheads, Longitudinals, trunks, etc,
• 15. Ability to Install and Replace Hull Inserts and Penetrations, Ability to Install Miscellaneous and Complex Foundations.

Pay: $38.00 Per hour”
