Job summary

Turner Industries in Decatur, AL is seeking a skilled Rigger to assemble rigging and move equipment on maintenance and construction projects. The role requires knowledge of slings, chokers, and rigging hardware, with field safety as a priority.

Responsibilities

• Select cables, ropes, pulleys, winches, blocks and sheaves according to weight and size of load to be moved.
• Attach load to crane hook with grappling devices.
• Provide directions to equipment operator and ensure safety of workers.
• Set up and rig hoisting equipment; perform rope/wire splicing as needed.
• Perform additional assignments per supervisor's direction.

Turner Industries Group, LLC has an opening for a Rigger to join our Team in the Decatur, AL area. The Rigger will be responsible for assembling rigging to lift and move equipment or material on maintenance and construction projects.

Essential Qualifications:

• High School or equivelant
• One (1) to four (4) years of experience in specified skill (depending on mechanic level)
• Knowledge of all types of slings/chokers
• Must ensure all rigging hardware and slings meet the company quarterly inspection criteria
• Some job sites may require NCCER certification for this craft
• Written pre-employment qualification test
• Post-offer drug/alcohol screen and physical evaluation
• Job site safety requirements as required by the client (clean shaven, long sleeves, steel toe boots, etc.)
• Safety equipment as required by the client (hard hat, safety glasses, gloves, respirator, hearing protection, safety harness with lanyard, etc.)
• Applicant/employee must not pose a direct threat to the health or safety of others in the workplace.

Functional Requirements:

• Selects cables, ropes, pulleys, winches, blocks and sheaves according to weight and size of load to be moved,
• Attaches pulley and blocks to fixed overhead structures, such as beams, ceilings and gin pole booms, with bolts
• and clamps, Attaches load to crane hook with grappling devices, such as loops, wires, ropes and chains, Gives
• directions to equipment operator engaged in hoisting and moving loads ,
• Ensures the safety of workers and
• material handlers using hand signals, loudspeaker or telephone,
• Sets up, braces and rigs hoisting equipment,
• Splices rope and wire to repair slings and tackles,
• May direct workers engaged in hoisting of machinery and
• equipment into ships, railroad cars or trucks,
• Perform additional assignments per supervisor's direction

Compensation:

Final agreed upon compensation is based upon individual qualifications and experience.

Physical Involvement:

• May be required to do the following: climbing ladders, scaffolds, structures, etc. above and below ground level;
• maintaining balance on ladders, scaffolds, structures, etc.; reaching in all directions; handling and manipulating
• objects and materials; coordinating the movements of eyes, hands and fingers to operate tools and equipment;
• lifting 30 to 50 pounds from ground level, waist level, and/or overhead; carrying objects, tools, equipment, etc.;
