JM Davidson, Inc. is seeking a Rig Welder to perform high-quality welding and fabrication on industrial construction sites. The role requires mobility with a welding rig truck, strict safety adherence, and the ability to complete field tasks efficiently.

You will read blueprints, set up and operate welding equipment, inspect welds for quality, and assist with other site activities when not welding. A valid license and the ability to pass tests are essential.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience as a rig welder in industrial or heavy construction environments.
  • Ability to pass welding tests in required processes and positions.
  • Ownership or access to a fully operational welding rig truck if required by employer.
  • Strong knowledge of welding techniques, materials, and safety practices.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and welding symbols.
  • Valid driver’s license (CDL may be required depending on truck specifications).

Responsibilities

  • Perform welding tasks (SMAW, FCAW, GMAW, GTAW as required) on structural steel, piping, and equipment.
  • Mobilize to various job site locations using a fully equipped welding rig truck.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, welding symbols, and project specifications.
  • Set up, maintain, and operate welding equipment and tools on the rig truck.
  • Inspect welds to ensure compliance with quality standards and codes.
  • Perform cutting, grinding, and fitting as needed.
  • Maintain welding consumables, gases, and supplies on the rig.
  • Ensure all work is completed in accordance with OSHA regulations and site safety requirements.
  • Coordinate with supervisors, fitters, and other trades to complete assigned tasks efficiently.
  • Maintain daily work logs and equipment inspection records.
  • When welding work is not in progress, assist with other construction tasks, including material handling and job site preparation; assisting fitters, ironworkers, or other trades; equipment setup and cleanup.

Job description

Job Summary: The Rig Welder is responsible for performing high-quality welding and fabrication work using a personally owned or company-provided welding rig truck on industrial construction sites. This role requires mobility, self-sufficiency, and the ability to complete welding tasks in the field while adhering to strict safety and quality standards. When welding work is not in progress, the Rig Welder will assist with other site activities to support overall project efficiency

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform welding tasks (SMAW, FCAW, GMAW, GTAW as required) on structural steel, piping, and equipment
  • Mobilize to various job site locations using a fully equipped welding rig truck
  • Read and interpret blueprints, welding symbols, and project specifications
  • Set up, maintain, and operate welding equipment and tools on the rig truck
  • Inspect welds to ensure compliance with quality standards and codes
  • Perform cutting, grinding, and fitting as needed
  • Maintain welding consumables, gases, and supplies on the rig
  • Ensure all work is completed in accordance with OSHA regulations and site safety requirements

Required Qualifications:

  • Proven experience as a rig welder in industrial or heavy construction environments
  • Ability to pass welding tests in required processes and positions
  • Ownership or access to a fully operational welding rig truck (if required by employer)
  • Strong knowledge of welding techniques, materials, and safety practices
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and welding symbols
  • Valid driver’s license (CDL may be required depending on truck specifications)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in refineries, petrochemical plants, or pipeline construction
  • Multi-process welding capability (stick, flux core, TIG, MIG)
  • Familiarity with ASME, API, or other industry codes
  • OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift up to 75 lbs
  • Capable of working in confined spaces, at heights, and in various weather conditions
  • Ability to stand, kneel, bend, and work in awkward positions for extended periods
  • Industrial construction sites (plants, refineries, warehouses, infrastructure projects)
  • Exposure to heat, sparks, fumes noise, dust, extreme temperatures, and heavy machinery
  • Requires strict adherence to PPE and safety protocols at all time
  • May require overtime, weekends, and shift work
