Job Title: RF Technician
Job Description

The RF Technician performs advanced RF testing, calibration, and component-level troubleshooting on new products and customer-returned units while working with minimal supervision. This role supports the customer service function by ensuring products meet performance specifications, using detailed test procedures, schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical documentation. The technician works closely with engineering and other team members to diagnose complex issues, implement repairs, and maintain high standards of product quality and reliability.

Responsibilities
  • Perform advanced RF testing, calibration, troubleshooting, and repair of new products using established test procedures, schematics, wiring diagrams, and instruction manuals.
  • Test, calibrate, troubleshoot, and repair customer-returned products down to the component level, ensuring they meet all performance and quality specifications before release.
  • Use oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, network analyzers, and other laboratory test equipment to diagnose and resolve RF and digital circuitry issues.
  • Troubleshoot and repair printed circuit boards (PCBs) at the component level, including identifying faulty components and implementing effective repairs.
  • Read, interpret, and apply electronic specifications, schematics, and layouts to guide testing and repair activities.
  • Collaborate regularly with the engineering team to resolve complex technical issues, share findings, and support continuous product improvement.
  • Use Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook to document test results, maintain records, and communicate with internal stakeholders.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe workbench and work area in accordance with company standards.
  • Work effectively as part of a small technical team, contributing to a cooperative and supportive work environment.
  • Support large-scale production and service projects by efficiently testing, troubleshooting, and releasing high volumes of handheld test units as needed.
Essential Skills
  • Minimum 2-year technical degree with 3 to 5 years of relevant experience in RF testing, troubleshooting, and repair (required).
  • Hands-on experience using oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, network analyzers, and other laboratory test equipment.
  • Proficiency in RF testing, calibration, and component-level troubleshooting.
  • Strong ability to read, understand, and apply electronic specifications, schematics, and circuit layouts.
  • Experience with testing and repairing printed circuit boards (board repair) at the component level.
  • Ability to troubleshoot digital circuitry, including FPGA, CPLD, and microprocessor-based designs.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook for documentation and communication.
  • Ability to work with minimal direction while maintaining high accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Strong teamwork skills, with a people-oriented and patient approach to collaborating with others.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Experience programming microcontrollers (preferred but not required).
  • Background in avionics or military electronics (preferred).
  • Experience with Visual Basic or LabVIEW programming (a plus).
  • Past experience in military electronics and avionics environments (a plus).
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with engineering and cross-functional teams.
  • Strong problem‑solving skills and a methodical approach to diagnosing complex RF and digital issues.
Work Environment

The RF Technician works primarily at an electronics workbench, seated for most of the day while troubleshooting and repairing printed circuit boards and RF assemblies. The role is part of a small, focused team of two technicians who collaborate closely and communicate regularly with the engineering team. The environment is laboratory-style, using test equipment such as oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, network analyzers, and other specialized instruments. The work involves supporting high-volume projects involving thousands of handheld test units, requiring consistent attention to detail and adherence to established procedures.
