Job summary

The Applied Research Laboratory (ARL) at Penn State University seeks an analytical RF engineer to join the Strategic Systems Operation Division. The role involves researching, designing, developing, integrating and testing advanced wireless RF communication systems required for national and international projects.

On-site work in State College, PA with limited hybrid options, frequent travel to sponsor and contractor sites.

Qualifications

• Experience with passive and active RF systems
• Troubleshooting, measuring and designing RF systems
• RF circuit implementation, design, test and analysis
• Electromagnetic and acoustic fundamentals in RF domains
• Link budget theory and RF fundamentals
• Analog-to-digital domain conversions
• Nyquist sampling zones and up/down conversions
• Software radio architectures and RF sensitivity analytics
• RF simulation tools such as CST, XFdtd, ADS, Genesis, SPICE
• PCB design for RF prototypes

Responsibilities

• Apply RF expertise to programs with national or international impact
• Ensure technical excellence and on-time completion of project tasks
• Provide clear program status updates to Fleet-level personnel
• Collaborate with engineering teams, sponsors and other stakeholders
• Contribute as a multi-disciplinary engineering team member
