Raytheon's Airborne Radar Electronics Design (ARED) Department

is seeking a highly skilled and experienced electrical engineering leader with expertise in engineering management, design, testing, and integration to join our Radar, Command and Control (C2), and Platform Integration team in Fullerton, CA. The Section Leader will leverage advanced technical knowledge in Radar Subsystems and understand the impact of this work on other areas of the organization, ensuring seamless collaboration and alignment with broader business objectives.

This 1st shift position will be 100% onsite and based in Fullerton, CA

The successful candidate will lead a talented team of Radar Subsystem Engineers, spearheading radar subsystem and network integration efforts, supporting radar product development, and providing direct technical leadership for Airborne Radar Electronic Design programs. A key focus will be on the design, integration, testing, and production support of radar systems, including the NASAM Sentinel Radar. The candidate will collaborate with the Command and Control (C2) team on program tasks and network integration execution, while working closely with Chief Engineers and Program Managers to ensure seamless program execution and alignment with organizational goals.

Key responsibilities include

mentoring and fostering career development within the team, managing staffing plans, and driving team development. The candidate will also lead proposal development efforts, prepare Basis of Estimates (BOEs), and oversee cost estimation and production projects to ensure programs are delivered on time, within budget, and to specification. Additionally, the candidate will manage program performance using the Earned Value Management System (EVMS), prepare and present reports such as Program Performance Reviews (PPRs), Variance Analysis Reviews (VARs), and Estimates at Completion (EACs), and actively mitigate risks while balancing design performance and cost trade-offs.

This role requires a strong background in radar design and integration, engineering management, and cross-functional collaboration. The ideal candidate will be a self-motivated, innovative, and results-driven leader with the ability to foster technical excellence, build high-performing teams, and deliver on complex program objectives in a fast-paced, mission-critical environment.

Section Leader Responsibilities to Anticipate
  • Manage a section of 15 to 20 engineers.
  • Provide career and technical mentoring.
  • Support hiring goals and building high performance teams.
  • Mentor and develop junior staff.
  • Support employee performance, career development, and growth throughout the year.
  • Technical problem solving, project leadership, proposal writing, pursuing new business, leader of development teams, and lead organizational initiatives.
  • Work closely with other section leaders, the department leader, business units, program offices, senior leaders, senior staff engineers, and other development team members.
  • Communicate organizational goals and other pertinent information through monthly team meetings.
  • Modeling and Driving Raytheon Values and Behaviors.
Engineering Responsibilities to Anticipate
  • Lead and support RF Radar Subsystem product development, transition to production and integration activities.
  • Design and development of RF Radar Subsystem
  • Participate in hardware design reviews.
  • Technical leadership during the transition to production and support to production activities.
  • Lead functional and cross-disciplinary teams to meet organizational goals.
  • Cost and schedule management.

This role combines 75% hands-on technical contribution with 25% functional team leadership.

Qualifications You Must Have:
  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum 10 years of prior work experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and a minimum 7 years of prior work experience.
  • Experience with RF Radar subsystem design, test, and integration
  • Experience in leading multi-disciplined engineering team
  • Experience working on designs from concept through production.
  • The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance post-start is required. U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.
Qualifications We Prefer:
  • Experience in Network integration for Command Center programs
  • Front Line Leadership Training
  • Functional leadership or IPTL/CAM experience
  • Program Management Certification, or Equivalent
  • Experience in proposals and developing technical solutions and writing portions of both technical and cost volumes
  • Experience with presenting technical results to Program Leadership
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to function effectively as part of a larger team
  • Current DoD Secret level security clearance
  • Willing to travel

The salary range for this role is 145,600 USD - 276,800 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
