Job summary

The Pennsylvania State University’s Applied Research Laboratory seeks an entry level Research and Development Engineer to join the Antennas, Computational Electromagnetics, and Propagation Department. You will work on RF propagation projects from ELF to millimeter wave and help solve complex propagation problems.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Science is required or equivalent.
  • Ability to document research findings in whitepapers and reports.
  • Ability to implement scientific or technical solutions with mentorship.
  • End-to-end design, implementation and testing of technical solutions.
  • Strong presentation skills to senior professionals.
  • Opportunity to develop and write white papers.
  • Fluency in Matlab, Python, C++, and FORTRAN for tasks.

Responsibilities

  • Use methods to design, develop, and implement RF propagation models, including environmental effects.
  • Develop novel RF propagation techniques and mathematical derivations.
  • Conduct RF propagation experiments and tests in lab/field and record data.
  • Document data and findings in technical reports or presentations.
  • Improve modeling capabilities, extend existing methods, or diversify applications.
  • Provide innovative problem-solving approaches and identify new research opportunities.
  • Learn strategic objectives and build sponsor relationships; support grant activity.
  • Identify follow-on projects and contribute to technical proposals.
