Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Design, optimize, and validate LTE and 5G NR networks focusing on coverage, capacity, and performance.
• Perform link budget analysis, propagation modeling, and RF planning.
• Analyze RF KPI performance and troubleshoot degradations.
• Conduct drive tests, data analysis, and site validation.
• Collaborate with field/integration teams to resolve interference and mobility issues.
• Support neighbor planning, PCI/RSI planning, and carrier configuration audits.
• Prepare performance reports and optimization plans.
• Ensure compliance with operator guidelines and performance standards.

About the Role:

Techner is seeking a skilled Mid-Level RF Engineer to support LTE and 5G network design, optimization, and performance improvement across multiple US markets. This role requires strong RF fundamentals, hands-on troubleshooting expertise, and the ability to translate network data into actionable engineering solutions. The RF Engineer will work closely with performance, field, and integration teams to ensure network KPIs, coverage, and capacity targets are consistently achieved.

Key Responsibilities:

• Design, optimize, and validate LTE and 5G NR radio networks with a focus on coverage, capacity, and performance
• Perform link budget analysis, propagation modeling, and RF planning activities
• Analyze RF performance KPIs and troubleshoot degradations affecting user experience
• Conduct drive test data analysis, cluster optimization, and site acceptance validation
• Collaborate with field and integration teams to resolve interference, overshooting, mobility, and signal quality issues (CQI/SINR)
• Support neighbor planning, RET optimization, PCI/RSI planning, and carrier configuration audits
• Prepare performance reports, engineering recommendations, and optimization action plans
• Ensure compliance with operator engineering guidelines and performance standards
• Work with cross-functional teams to support network expansions and upgrades

Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications, or a related field
• 3–5 years of RF engineering experience in LTE and/or 5G NR networks
• Strong understanding of RF propagation, mobility management, and 3GPP standards
• Proficiency with RF planning and optimization tools such as Atoll, Planet, WinProp, Actix, TEMS, or Nemo
• Strong troubleshooting skills using Layer 3 analysis and log processing
• Ability to interpret network KPIs and implement performance improvement strategies
• Strong communication skills and ability to present findings to both technical and non-technical stakeholders

Preferred Qualifications:

• Direct Verizon Wireless RF optimization or design experience
• Experience with Verizon tools and processes (e.g., XCAP, VCP, UETR analysis)
• Familiarity with Verizon KPI frameworks and acceptance criteria
• Experience with Nokia, Ericsson, or Samsung RAN platforms
• Knowledge of automation or scripting using Python, MATLAB, or SQL
• Experience with RF parameter optimization and cluster-level tuning
