Job summary

Brookhaven National Laboratory seeks a mechanical engineer to support the NSLS-II RF Group. The role covers design, analysis, testing, and operation of high-power RF systems, cryogenic plants, and related mechanical subsystems across the accelerator complex.

You will learn on the job, collaborate with engineers and technicians, prepare schematics and technical docs, and contribute to reliable operation and safety. On-site at Brookhaven with DOE credentialing requirements.

Qualifications

  • BS in Mechanical Engineering, Physics or related field with at least 3 years of experience.
  • Experience with ANSYS, CST or equivalent multiphysics tools.
  • Proficient in 3-D CAD (Inventor, SolidWorks, Pro-E or equivalent).
  • Hands-on experience procuring, assembling and installing mechanical parts.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Availability for limited off-hour on-call support.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, commission, operate, troubleshoot and repair mechanical sub-systems.
  • Perform analysis and simulations using ANSYS, CST or related codes.
  • Assist in cryogenic system operation and cavity operation.
  • Design, procure, and develop mechanical components to meet evolving accelerator requirements.
  • Generate and maintain schematics, diagrams, work instructions and technical documentation.
  • Develop maintenance schedules and work plans for operating mechanical systems.
  • Maintain current knowledge of principles, methods, and best practices within the related fields.
