Overview
TAS Design & Drafting Group reviews customer requirements, specifications, manufacturing constraints and other design inputs to generate comprehensive packaged equipment designs and system layouts. The department develops models and drawings based on the design intent communicated by TAS Project Engineers, including structural, mechanical, electrical, and controls sub‑assemblies.
Responsibilities
- Interpret piping and instrument diagrams, site layouts, equipment layouts, piping plan drawings, process flow diagrams, specifications, bills of materials, and GA drawings relative to packaged equipment system designs.
- Build and maintain effective working relationships with other designers and departments.
- Maintain drafting production schedule for different types of drawings, ensuring accuracy of deliverables.
- Create 3D models and layouts, including mating surfaces, correct library parts, extrusions, assemblies, and exploded view diagrams with BOMs.
- Produce layouts and section views with BOMs, callouts, and dimensions.
- Review scope documents and specifications for verification of design against design intent and customer requirements.
- Demonstrate the ability to execute designs on basic projects and conduct model reviews per department processes with assistance.
- Support the desired culture and work environment of the department and execute the design process per department processes.
Skill & Experience
- Experience with weldments, pipe routing, and designing skids and piping in Revit.
- Experience in package/plant designs and layouts, with broad knowledge of technical applications, maintenance, operation, and clearance constraints of structural, mechanical, controls, and electrical equipment systems.
- Knowledgeable of applicable codes (NEC, IEC, ASME, AISC, AWS, UMC, OSHA, building codes).
- A self‑starter and highly skilled designer capable of performing all design and modeling tasks required for delivering production‑level drawings to purchasing and production departments with limited direction.
Minimum Requirements
- Experience designing in Revit (pipe routing, skids, weldments).
- Experience with Solid Works, Microsoft Office Suites and Google Docs.
- Capability to produce package/plant designs and layouts with basic knowledge of technical applications, maintenance, operation, and clearance constraints of structural, mechanical, controls, and electrical equipment systems.
- Mechanical, structural, electrical, and controls design experience.
- Awareness of applicable codes (NEC, IEC, ASME, AISC, AWS, UMC, OSHA, building codes).
- Capability to perform most design and Solid Works modeling tasks required for production‑level drawings under supervision.
Education & Training
High school diploma. Associate’s degree in a technical discipline or graphics design is a plus.
Physical Requirements
- At least 80% to 95% at a desk working with a computer.
- Ability to exert up to 10 pounds of force occasionally for lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, or moving objects.
- Perform other physical activities such as using fingers, sitting, stooping, bending, crouching, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions.
- Visual acuity required for color, depth perception, field of vision to prepare and analyze data and figures.
